You have to take those mirrors and remove the mounting bases from mirrors. I have ordered a set of 03 power/heated towing mirrors for an 03 as well. (the one's Luke has for $345, those are just for 03's and up) You have to take those mirrors and remove the mounting bases as well. Once you have the mirrors taken apart you must put the power/heated 03 head units on the older bases. Then you can mount them to your truck and splice in the correct wires to power them. I will see if I can find the post on the TDR with the directions and post a link. It's alot of trouble for a set of towing mirrors but I believe once I'm done it will be well worth it. 8)

DB

Re:Mirrors

Here's the link to the directions for the hybrid 02/03 towing Mirrors.

Directions

Be very careful when removing the locking ring that hold the spring in. When that puppy comes out it's moving fast.

Here is a link to a post I made lst week about the dissasembley of the mirrors.

Look Out

Re:Mirrors

I just ordered the 03 mirrors to complete the electric conversion and only paid $315.00 + shipping. Also got a great deal on the 2000 stock switch. It's from the same people that are selling the non-electric on E-bay.I tried to buy from my local ******* and was told they are on national back order. These guys said they would ship today. I only have a phone #(800)559-6698.Thanks for the advise about the spring clip on base.

Re:Mirrors

If you are just wanting the non powered units it's a simple 20 minute install. Just call you local dealer and tell them you want a set of the flipout towing mirrors for your year of truck. The kit goes from anywhere from $200 up to $300 just depending on the dealer.

To get the power and heat it's a little more involved, just click on the link above to find out.

Good Luck.

DB

Re:Mirrors

I'm VERY interested in this, so today I went and looked at an '03 with the swing-out power/heated mirrors. I can see the need to change the bases - they're part of the front corner of the window, and the '03 slopes back sharper. The '03 base & arm is also a lot larger than my '02 power/heated mirrors, and before I spend 350 bucks, I'd like to be sure we're talking about the same thing. Here's a pic of one of my mirrors. The '03 swing-out arm WILL fit my '02 base, right ??.......even tho' it comes off a larger base ?? Since my '02 already has the mirrors installed, is it practical to dis-assemble them on the door ?? After reading what you said about the spring, I think I'll tape heavy cardboard over the paint below the mirror and wear safety glasses. I have the **** slip-ons now, and the '03 swing-outs will gain me about 2", as well as much bigger mirrors. Both are very definite pluses. Thanks a lot for your help.........and patience. biglar,

You have the small power/heated mirrors, you need the factory flip-up tow mirrors, AND the '03 factory power/heated flip-up tow mirrors, for this swap. If/when you do get both sets of mirrors, you'll want to take them apart on a bench or the like, all the work hunched over will make your chiropractor even more wealthy.

Good luck, Rob

Re:Mirrors

Time to crawl the wrecking yards, I guess. What years did they have those flip up mirrors ?? They were the non-power, non-heated ones, right ?? Anyone interested in buying my old ones ?? Re:Mirrors

Yes, you need the non power flip up bases, but good luck just finding those without the rest of the mirror. The non power flip up mirriors were only offered in '01 and '02, maybe a few late '00's had them as well.

Later, Rob

BTW, I call them, "bases" technically they are named "sails", FWIW.
