Minimum trailer required?

I won't go with the minimum of course but I want your opinions as to what I should not go below.

2006 2500 4x4 auto, I'll have gauges, brake controller, and a turnover for Goose and 5th.

I have to tow my 02 QC gasser, and my 93 Mustang GT from Cali to KY.

In the truck will be 2 adults, 3 kids, and 2 large dogs in the bed. I'll put our luggage in the cab of the towed truck.

Should I load GT up front and QC behind it or the other way? QC first but backwards with the GT facing it nose to nose to keep the engine weights close to the trailer wheels instead of towards the pin?

Anything I'm missing? Anything I should add? Should I gooseneck, bumperpull? Anyone know a national company that rents these types of trailers vs. buying for one way trips? Seems the common rental companies max out at a 4000lb load capacity trailer (My QC weighs more than that). I've spent quite a good amount of time googling with poor results.

I have a 24 foot flatbed gooseneck. It is not long enough for what you need, just letting you know it weighs 4000 pounds by itself. I personally wouldn't tow that kind of weight (two cars) with anything other than a gooseneck trailer. Just guessing weights, but I'm thinking 8000 for your CTD Dodge, 5000 trailer, 6000 other Dodge, 4500 Mustang equals 23,500. CA requires a CDL for towing trailers over 10,000, if you have a CA drivers license. I would go with a two car wedge if I could find one used and not abused. The other option is a pro hauler, there are some on this site and also at the TDR. It might be easier than trying to buy/sell a trailer.

I had a 26' Coachman Catalina. Quality but not hugh. I had the front kitchen...nice layout.......especialy for the kids and what privacy you can expect for you and your wife (not much). Was a BP. Pulled well. I use to take it to the mountains of Colorado every year, towed behing a 1/2 and 3/4 ton gasser.

The truck will pull it, but you'll probably be well over the rated gvwr for the tow rig.

You need a gooseneck to pull that, and it will have to be probably 35' plus and rated 14k (I figure the 2 vehicles will be around 9200, and the trailer probably in the 4250 range).

you would be best to load the car 1st (probably backwards), then the truck.

Good Luck however you do it. You gonna be pushing the limits no matter what.
