Lowering weight distributing hitch.....
Lowering weight distributing hitch.....
Mine only drops about 8 inches and I need one that drops about 12- 14 inches. I have a piece of solid 2" square stock i can weld to the old draw bar after cutting the 8" drop one off. Or should I just buck up and spend the 150 bucks for one? I like to save as much as possible, just like everyone else, but concerned about liability if anything should ever happen. Not that I doubt my welding abilities or anything!
$150 vs. liability of failure is CHEAP! I hate to spend the money, when I have the tools to do it....but I don't quite trust my welding for structural requirements.
At least for $150, they bear the liability of failure and rate the hitch for a given weight.

Someone out there wants a 8" WD hitch. I would sell mine 8" to recover some cost and get the $150 one I need. The "they bear the liability" argument does not go far for me, what I want is not someone to sue but a piece of hardware I have a reason to think is not going to fail and require a lawsuit, and I do think that manufacturers who certify their hitches test them to the ratted capacity, plus some.

Maybe this will ease the pain a little. http://www.etrailer.com/c-WDS.htm
Looks like if you order $150 worth of stuff you can get $.99 shipping?????
