I had a Emerald III in my Jayco Designer, when I sold the camper the new owner didn't want the generator. I purchased a Montana and I fit the generator in the front hole. I took aluminum and made a cover and glued foil insulation around the box. I bought a 12 gallon aluminum fuel tank and fit it on the other side and run the vent on the tank into the gas bottle compartment. the exhaust was run out the other side or drivers side under the fuel tank. Now the wiring, your generator puts out 120 volts, your camper if it has a 50 amp service has two 120 volt busses. I jumped the incoming 120 bolts on the bottom of two 30 amp breakers pinned to provide 120 volts to all feeds. Onan makes an installation kit which includes a hour meter and a plug for the start / stop option. It sounds like you saved money on the generator, take it to a camper place and have them hook it up. Good luck.

What I need is the wiring diagram for the start/run circuit, and power distribution circuit. Can it be hooked up without the inside control box? If so, can another remote start circuit be manufactured.

I am a little uneasy about mounting it under the front of the fiver, because of fire/carbo monoxide concerns, so I have another idea. Since there will be very limited times that the fiver goes out, without the truck, what about mounting the genst in the bed of the truck? If I mount it up in the front of the bed, I can put a small breaker box ( 1 main, 2 outputs) in my toolbox, along with the 30 amp plug for the rv, and (2) 10 amp plugs for a drill, work lights, ect. I can get one of the old style metal gas cans to use as the fuel tank for the genset. The can would fit in the hole created by my narrow aux. fuel tank for the truck, and the toolbox (made for the small trucks).

I would like to get your opinions on this idea, and if anybody has the information I need, mentioned above, I'd greatly appreciate it. Here are the specs for the genset:
Onan Emerald 3
Model #- 6.5NHEFA26100E
Serial #- I880164030

I don't remember EVER seeing a 6.5NH series Onan with a Bendix drive---Dad's used the armature to start it, as Polarco stated. And don't "hem and haw" about the cost to repair an Onan...they are a reliable unit and quiet costs...but it's worth it.
