keeping out mice
Those little buggers cost me $600 when they chewed the wiring harness on my generator. $80 for the harness and the rest labor. One season on my deer lease in Texas was all it took. I use poison bait everywhere now.
I have a take-home work vehicle, so my CTD spends a lot of time sitting. I had a huge problem with rodents of every variety getting under my hood and making homes. I have tried every solution listed in this thread except for the peppermint thing. The only things that have helped me are traps (and yes peanut butter is an excellent bait) and the electronic repellants. I would love to hear some new tried and proven suggestions.
I have stored mine 3 years so far and What I use is Comet cleaner. I park the trailer and then spread comet everywhere the mice and get at the trailer. Never had a problem yet and no smell at all
They say that Necessity is the Mother of Invention and living out in the country I have had a major problem with mice.
So I came up with my own style trap that works and have caught 11 in a single night in one trap. Talking to other people such as what I am reading in this forum I did some research and found that there is nothing like it out there. I actually have it patent pending right now.
It is a super simple design and i am suprised that nobody has come up with anything like it before. I just have not had the money to complete the patent. I have thought about selling the plans and photos to individuals up on eBay so people could build them themselves and most people have almost everything to build them in their garage. And it is even safe enough if an animal or child got into it.
Would anyone be interested if I listed a copy of the plans? And since I would be doing this to raise money to complete the patent, what would you be wiling to pay for the plans to build it yourself?

I will be winterizing the camper to head south for the winter. this spring when I came up I found LOT'S of mouse droppings and minor problems from them setting house in the camper. I have heard of using moth *****, dryer sheets and some kind of high freq. sound generator.what is the consensus on what if anything works on keeping the little devil's out

We have had really good luck around the house and the travel trailers with steel wool and spray foam. For whatever reasons mice, rats and squirrels don’t like chewing spray foam or the steel wool. I spray foamed every little spot that was big enough to get the nozzle in. I stick steel wool in spots like the heater and water heater exhausts and remove it when we go somewhere. Haven’t had any more problems with ants or wasps either.
I had to move to an outdoor storage lot after the building I was storing my camper in was sold. Not even a month later, I had mice. My dad told me to use cloves, like you'd put in a ham. Bought several bottles from Big Lots and placed them in small margarine bowls with resealable lids. Placed the bowls in the heater box, under the sink, storage cabinets, under the beds, anywhere I thought a mouse might try to come in and nest. I leave them out all year long, only putting them away when we are camping. 3 years later, and still using my original cloves, I've yet to have the mice return. My Dad has been using cloves for almost 10 years with no mice and his camper is parked in his field. Now to be perfectly clear, I also did the spray foam trick after the first mice discovery, so I gotta give disclosure for that, but my Dad has never had mice just using the cloves alone. FWIW.

. If I have done nothing else it is uninhabitable to humans till I get it cleaned up and aired out
.I will post my result's when I can get on line up in them thar hills.

well I got back Friday morning and I guess it was not a total failure. the camper was still there. there was a few sign's of mice but it was VERY light. I guess when I leave this fall I will try some of the other things that was posted and leave the moth ***** to the moth's

I use Decon Mouse proof. I put it in all the outside storage cabinets, and under the rig next to the tires. Cats won't mess with the pellets, so no problem killing the neighbor's little darling.
I never have mice inside. However, I have an older Avion, and it has a fully covered aluminum belly pan. It is like a rolling thermos. The only wood I can see, is when I open the water/electric bin. I just open the box, and toss it inside. NEVER ever had mice. They crawl off somewhere else and die.

and..
we also had a problem, the traps were catching the adult mice but the babies were running over the traps without setting them off.
.
What stopped it was the glue traps, everything gets caught..mice, bugs, etc..
good luck..
