That's crazy, how do you estimate the load being transfered to those tires. Maybe great for a homeowner , but in the working world that would be torn up in the second day.

Never seen the movie but Lucy needed all the help she could get with the vehicle she was driving.

You can see the contraption in this picture.

I bit like those 5th wheel rear dolly things you see in the back of the diesel power magizines
those fifthwheel dollys....now those are a waste of money. I cant see why someone would buy a fifth wheel trailer-then change their mind & go to some contraption like that. either get a toyhauler trailer-or a bumper pull...

Them little tires would be doing at least 160 with a few short calculations.

Math may not be your strong point. The tires are still doing 80 mph but at about twice the rpm.

They had those in the 50's. My grandfather had a trailer he pulled with a car and it had a similar one.

Maybe this would be a better use for the rear receiver hitch!

Looks like a take off on a "Watson Trailer dolly" very popular before vehicles had heavy duty suspension. Just about every racing team used them up through the 70's. Before they went to tractor and trailers. They pulled their trailers coast to coast and very fast with them. Builder was A.J. Watson from Indy fame, Ever hear of the Leader Card Specials?

But then, their catalog also offers a CAMO toilet seat that mounts on your receiver....it is nice that the SEAT blends in with the natural surroundings, but most animals (at least those worth hunting...) have a sense of smell, don't they ?

If someone is towing at 80 mph. Please post where your going so I won't be on that road.

I personnally can see a use for this. Let's say you are running a SRW 2500 like mine with airbags. Your setup to haul your fiver but on a particular trip you need to laod some stuff in your bed for your son or daughter your visiting several states away.

You know then you are near the limit of the carrying capacity of the truck but not over. This could give some extra piece of mind but taking a few hundred pounds off the rear axle.

Knowing this I would drive slower, probably not over 60 mph.

Of course that's a lot of money to pay for a little piece of mind and knowing the weight you've taken off the rear axle seems to be problematic.

However, if you could solve that issue it might be a temporary help.

I think I'm more scared of you thinking its ok for a heavily loaded bed for "peace of mind", than I am of someone towing at 80mph.

Then again, I don't like either idea to begin with...
