Jake Brake?

I'm getting ready to move to Alaska next week, and am towing my toyhauler loaded 10-11K. Just curious what people are running for jake brakes, whether Cummins, Pac brake, or what ever else is out there. Also where is the best place to get it from for the price. Still in the air if I will install it or someone else, time is running out. Just figure I better have a little more stopping power.

TIA
Jake

Same here, dealer installed mine a few months after I bought the truck.

I have had it since I bought it and its great, slows the truck down nice, even with a trailer and I hardly touch the service brakes whether loaded or unloaded. That is if you aren't braking 2 ft back from the light or sign.

I vote for Jacobs also. That is what I have. Made for Cummins, by Cummins. No warranty issues. That being said however, and maybe someone can help me out here, but there were some auto trannies not compatible with the Jacobs. Not sure why, I drive a stick so I never paid that much attention. I was thinking it was the '06 or '07 models. May want to check it out before you buy.

If warranty weren't such a big deal for me, I would have gone with the Pac model. It runs on compressed air where the Jacobs runs on vacuum. With the Pac set up, you have the ability to access on-board air when you need it.

Just something to think about.

I went with the PacBrake PXRB. As stated it has its own air compressor and operates off compressed air rather than vacuum.

While warranty is important, performance and pricing was more important. I had mine installed for what the Dodge dealer wanted just for the Jacobs. Plus I don't need a $40 replacement fan belt.

I've had both Jacobs (on current truck) and a Pac on my old '02 and the Pac wins hands down. After having my vacuum pump fail with only ~40,000 miles I'd recommend another brand besides Jacobs.

I have also read where jake brakes also seem to cause some of the sensors to get dirty faster, resulting in worse mileage. I do not have one. If I drove more mountains, I would. I drive 55 with my trailer and normally have 1/4 mile or more between me and the next vehicle, unless there is an idiot. Lots of those!

Which sensors? There are none in the manifold or exhaust. And there is no fuel flowing thru the injctors when the brake is on so you won't be making soot. I don't buy it for a second. It sounds more like you are talking about EGR.

Thanks for the good info. About how much would I be looking to spend to have dodge install a Jacobs on my 07. And I will look into if it will work with my auto.

Thanks
Jake

I love my pac.. It out brakes the jake. My buddy is having issues with his Jake not getting full braking power and squeling. My Pac has been issue free and is also endorsed by Cummins.
