How much will longer extension affect my turning radius?
How much will longer extension affect my turning radius?
This question is regarding HOW an additional 1.5 foot length of my trailer hitch will affect my turning radius.
Currently I have a truck camper that requires a Torklift 42" hitch extension with a Torklift 20K receiver and Torklift weight distribution setup. I haul a 3 horse 16' trailer. I am within all weight specs for my truck/camper/hitch/trailer. I have airbags and Helwig swaybar. This setup tows very well and I am able to navigate most everything that I need to. I'm very comfortable towing this setup.
I'm Getting a new larger camper that will require the Torklift 60" receiver. I will still be within all of the weight specs. I will probably add Timbrens.
I can't try out the new camper to tow before I finalize the sale. I'm worried about how much the extra 1.5 ft length of the hitch receiver will affect my turning radius and backing.
Can anyone advise how much more difficult it will be to tow with the longer hitch extension? In regards to turning radius? Will it be dramatic? I can't wrap my head around the geometry of it
Thanks for your input!

I understand your worry about the longer hitch extension affecting turning, especially with the new camper. Adding 1.5 feet will in fact ensure you have the clearence needed when making tight turns. Backing up can be a little more tricky but as with everything you should get used to it fairly quickly, but that is why they make trucks with "Pro Trailer Backup Assist" - I would look for a video on YT to see it in action - Even though I am able to backup my boat my wife or anyone that I let use my truck may not be, so its a good option to get. Prices of the trucks vary, but they have come down considerably.
