Anyone know what the standard hitch rating is on an '04 with the towing package? Right now my truck is in the shop getting the 5ver hitch installed, but I was curious if my pull-behind hitch is a Class 3 or 4.

If you have the trailer tow package, your truck has a Class IV Hitch. The 2004 manual says:

"With a Class IV Hitch, you can tow a trailer with a Gross Trailer weight of up to 12,000 lbs (5443 kg) maximum, depending on your vehicle equipment. Tongue weight must be equal to at least 10% of the Gross Trailer Weight (GTW), but no more than 15% of the GTW." (Page 276)

I'm assuming the "equipment" the manual is referring to is the axle ratio.

Re:Hitch rating on my '04?

Might be a stupid question but here goes:
Is there anything in the manual about the need for a WD hitch over a certain weight?
The sticker on my '02 factory hitch says "5000 lbs without a WD hitch or 10000 lbs with WD hitch".

If it's the same setup as the 2003 (& it probably is) the rating depends on whether or not you use a weight-distributing or a weight-carrying hitch; we had quite a long thread on this a while back.

The information in the manual, on the web & from the dealer was so contradictory that I sent an eMail to DC; this was their answer:

WC - hitch is only rated for class 3; 5,000 lb/500lb
WD - hitch is rated class 4; 12,000/1,200lb

I'd be very leery of dropping a 10,000 lb trailer on the ball...
