highest capacity E tire available?
highest capacity E tire available?
Are there any 265/70/17's that have more than a 3000lb capacity?
I'm about to start a hunt for some new rubber and want the best tire capacity I can get. Towing a 5th wheel loaded I'm getting close to the 6000lb limit of my current rear tires (pirelli scorpions).
Don't really want to go taller and loose towing ability either.
I would consider changing sizes but I really don't want to have to change rims too.
I like the idea of the Nitto Dura Grappler but I have to increase diameter to gain load capacity. 285/70/17's have a load capacity of 3750 lbs and the 285/75/17 have a 3970 lb capacity. I'd love the capacity of the 285/70/17 but it also increases diameter by 1" (2" for the 285/75's). Adds about 1.5% to my circumferance. Any thought on how that might affect towing and braking?

The 265s all have a 3195lb weight rating to them.
I ran some Nitto 285s for about 22k miles. I tow 11,000lbs and the difference in power over stock was very slight. The 285s fit the stock wheels fine and didn't come close to rubbing anything.
I wasn't dissapointed using the 285s for towing at all.

Something to consider is if you go to the larger tire you need to adjust the speedo. I just did that from a 265 Michelin 70R17E to a Hankook 285R70/17E A/T. I found a radar sign and set the tire to 32.00 using a Smarty to correct the speed. The Hankook is rated at 32.7 inch.
Another point to consider is you have a standard output and when you use a Smarty it will increase your power to the HO just using SW1. Someone correct me if that is wrong but that is what they say. Which is plenty of power to make up for the larger tires. Kill two birds with one stone. There has to be a better way to say this.
load 80psi single 3750lbs
