Help me tow a little better

I am towing with the truck in my sig. I pull a 30' GN with 4' dovetail. Payload is usually around 5000# to 9000#. I try to keep the RPM's up to 2000 to 2400 when I am pulling, but my EGT's still seem to creep up a bit much to around 1200* - 1250* and these are on small hills in the piedmont of NC. When I hit a hill my speedometer stays put and my EGT's are the ones that climb.
All in all I would like to get a little more power and lower my EGT's a bit. If anyone can offer some advice in which direction I need to move in that would be very helpful. With so many upgrades out there my head is spinning a little. Thanks

Kris

If you tow on a normal basis, I would say first install a 5" exhaust (ebay for $300+-), next change to the 3k tune on the XZT+, last change gears to 4.10...when I towed the boat 5k my egts would climb to that level after the 5" exhaust install I max out @ 1100* now and that's w/the info currently in my sig.

High Bid,
Where do I get the 3K tune for the XZT? All I see on the website is up to 2011. Also, when running, the max boost that I see is 18 psi. I have read about boost foolers, is there one made for the 24v second gens?
I am definitely going to get an exhaust and the 4.10's have also crossed my mind. I appreciate the info and look forward to anymore from anybody out there.

1. send me a pm w/your email address and I'll send you the 3k tune.
2. The XZT already has boost fooling built into the program (electronic)but you'll need a j-hook or boost elbow (mechanical)(do a search on here) to keep the wastegate from opening all the way. This will allow more boost and inturn more fuel=more power. When towing and in timing+fuel mode on the XZT you should be able to obtain 30-35psi of boost. Any more and you're just blowing hot air....literally.
3. try these first as they are much easier/cheaper than a gear swap

definatly get the boost fooler they work wonders. Also you can find a boost elbow to control the waste-gate for 20 bucks or so on ebay it works well also. Also where is your pyro sensor mounted?

Highbid,
Thanks for the info. Everytime I read about the j-hook they were always auto transmission guys so I was 100% if I could do that or not. I will look into that or the elbow. PM is on its way. Thanks again for all the info.

Rednekropr my pyro is located pre-turbo

Thanks,
Kris

if you really want to lower your egts and get a lil extra power too then a propane or water/meth set up would be good.

Pull it back into 4th when you hit a big hill with a load. Keep the RPMs up. If it luggs too much the EGTs will rise. I have the same truck with a 6 speed, and tow a heavy fifth wheel. I have to come out of 6th at times. Engine is still pulling in 6th, but EGTs are going too high.
