Help with GR WT

Here in St.Paul is a setion of Interstate 35 E that is Parkway. At the entrance from the south is a sign that says " Vehicles over 9000 GR WT must exit at W 7th st." It is also a 45 mph limit. So the debate is my truck is a 1 ton and is licensed in MN at 15k gr Wt. It weighs about 7500 to 7800 tops. We have the choice on 1 tons of 9k GW or 15k GW but the tax is the same. It is my daily driver not a work truck. So can I travel this road? Well I asked 4 city cops and got 2 ans. 2 Yes and 2 no. But they said it is not their juristiction so they have other things to do. The Trooper has juristriction on the interstate.

I see trucks with mighty heavy tanden trailers and even some medium duty trucks here all the time. So should I spend another 1/2 hour on the long way around or take this short cut.???

I'd take the shortcut.

If you are licensed for the 15 GW, and get stopped, they will look at that. If they weigh you, your scale weight will be under. Could go either way with a judge, too. If you produce evidence that your actual weight (which is the concern of the highway department) is under, and that you understood the sign to mean (because it doesn't clarify) actual/scale weight not tagged/permited weight, you might win.

Perhaps going to the authority that polices THAT road and asking for their opinion would tell you ?

My truck is about the same weight,
I've got it Licensed for 26k,but i don't take the truck route.
at least not unless I'm over the weight....ya never know when they have a good reason for the weight limit
If it says that over X GW then thats what it means I'd think
therefor if you had a KW that was magically under that weight you'd be ok.

If the police are so unconcerned about your gross weight as to give you conflicting answers and brush you off, I say that you take the shortcut, because it is apparent they probably are not going to be singling you out. But on the flipside, if you are towing anything substantial, take the long way around.

Gross Weight is the weight of your Vehicle.

Dont worry about that little sign unless you have a load of something in your bed.

Gross Weight is NOT what you registered your vehicle to haul, thats Gross Vehicle Weight RATING.

My truck is registered for 11500 I think, thats just what the TRUCK can legal weigh MAX.

SO, if your truck is 7800 Lb's your 1200 Lb's under the weight carrying limit for that perticular stretch of road.

I have a class A CDL, can ya tell? lol
