Heavy Hauling

Folks,

Last week I ordered a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel Automatic. This is my first diesel truck and it will be towing at or very near its maxium rated tow capacity. I fully appreciate the fact that any vehicle when operated at maxium load will stress its design limits and we identify the weakest link in the power train when it fails. My goal with this post is to determine what is the weakest link (or links) in the Dodge 2500 Diesel power train.

I suspect that the pool of knowledge in this forum is large enough that virtually every weak point of this truck has in one way or another been identified.

With that said, I be interested in hearing from anyone who has experienced a problem or has insight into the 2500 diesel power train weak points AND what precautions you have taken (monitoring via gages etc) or corrective action (after market equipment, aux trans cooler etc) you have installed.

Thanks

Jerry K.

The 06s have not been testes to high milage yet due to being so new, but I am gonna guess that the weak link will continue to be that Dodge auto tranny, get gauges, change the fluid often, maybe a double deep pan so you have some more fluid.
