GY Marathons

I found the below statement in a add for Goodyear Marathons I believe it is telling me that if I wish to drive at 70 MPH with these tires I need to overinflate the stated max PSI on the sidewall by 10 PSI.
This sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Ive been trying to get away from the Marathons but so far have not found a tire that I feel comfortable with that is rated for the wieght of my trailer.

Industry standards dictate that tires with the ST designation are speed restricted to 65 MPH under
normal inflation and load conditions unless a different speed restriction is indicated on the sidewall of
the tire.
• Based on industry standards, if tires with the ST designation are used at speeds between 66 and 75 mph,
it is necessary to increase the cold inflation pressures by 10 psi above the recommended pressure for the
load.
o Do not exceed the maximum pressure for the wheel.
o If the maximum pressure for the wheel prohibits the increase of air pressure, then the
maximum speed must be restricted to 65 mph.
o The cold inflation pressure must not exceed 10 psi beyond the inflation specified for the
maximum load of the tire.

I know this will be moved to Towing and RV (as soon as the moderators and addmin’s wake up from a night of partying) but I’ll go ahead and post what else I’ve found to get some opinions.
On some other charts that Goodyear has out it shows the GY 614 tire as able to carry 3700 lbs at 110 PSI but at lower PSI it shows that this tire can carry 3415 at 90PSI.
If I were to put this tire on and only run 90 PSI with my existing rims I would be within specs……right.

Also just a random thought and question: Is the reason that the GY Marathon rated at 3400lbs because of the speed restriction to 65 MPH or is it built differently?

The Hankook F19 in 7.50R16 (very close to 235/85R16) is rated for 3330 LB, they are listed under their trailer section:

Marathons are the biggest pile of crap trailer tires out there!
Lost 3 in 2 weeks on 2 different boat trailers last summer. Both sets were 4 years old, one set had high miles, one low miles, both stored inside (no UV damage). They all had the treads de-laminate off like a re-cap. Beat the crap out of my fiberglass fenders!

I just got Kumho 857s for my sled trailer. Only 14" D rated trailer tire (or LT tire) left on the market.

After looking at lots of tires I’m really thinking that I will go with the GY 614. The higher G rated tire should wear better. My only concern is the 110 PSI with the rims that I have.
So long as I can run these tires at 90-95 PSI my rims are ok but if I must run them at max PSI I could have a problem.
Anyone running these tires at less than max?

I just got some good news. We were getting ready to make a weekend trip down to Galveston and I noticed that another one of these Marathons was starting to roll up the tread. So I called my wife’s cousin and he will have a set of GY 614 G rated tires ready and waiting to mount in Rosenburg for me. While putting the spare on the ground happened to look at the rim and it clearly states Max load of 3750 lbs at 110 PSI so I’m set for the higher PSI with no worries.

Just as a FYI for others that may find themselves in this situation .He has been in the tire business most of his life (he grew up in the same shop working with his dad) and he stated that he had rather get me the HanKook tires as shown above but that they were on back order for the next few weeks. He stated that in his opinion they were better made tires and not nearly as hard on the bank account.
