Gooseneck Vs Bumperpull???
Gooseneck Vs Bumperpull???
Gonna get another trailer soon, I do heavy towing here and now...but what are the advantages of getting a gooseneck trailer???..I have a 7ton pintle hook and a few 2 inch ball 20 foot trailers...I want a deck over 20ft plus trailer...whats the differnce???
From what I have experienced the gooseneck is a much better trailer for hauling heavy loads than a bumper hitch. It distributes the wieght to the entire truck instead of just the rear. This makes it handle better. A goose neck also has a shorter turning raidius than the same size bumper hitch.
In essence, with a gooseneck, the truck and trailer become one articulated vehicle. When I got rid of my bumper pull car trailer for a gooseneck, I literally cannot tell it's back there (except for the slower acceleration, and increased braking distance). When I have the truck & trailer up to speed, the trailer follows the trucks lead 100% of the time. There is never any "tail wagging the dog", and there is never any understeer. Gooseneck is just an all around superior method of attaching the trailer to the truck.
go gooseneack all the way, it's sooo much better to pull over long distances, i haul a chuck wagon total weight is not a whole lot, but i had a bumper pull at first and i quickly changed to a gooseneck. it puts more weight on the center of the truck, and not just on the back of the truck. makeing it much eaiser to pull.

Reall there is no comparsion. My trailer is a bumper pull, but only because I want the bed avillable when I use that one. When I get a flat bed I won't even be considering a tag...

Bumper pulls are junk in comparison to a goosneck. MUCH nicer to pull, back up with, distributes load better, and many other things. We have a 16 foot tag along, and a 16 foot low boy goosneck(just like a tag along with a goosneck), and since we got the goosneck, we havent used the tag in probably 2-3 years. Tags are OK, but a goosneck is just so much nicer.

We have a tag trailer aswell but Im going to build a gooseneck in a few months. Besides points mentioned above, the only slight problem I see with gooseneck is you have to cut wider turns to clear cars/medians. Tad gets thrown out when making a turn, gooseneck has to cut wider turns. Only time I see this would be a problem is when driving through the city. Dont get my wrong, Im not dissing goosenecks, I really like them, but thats just the only small con about them, and maybe taking up storage space ( 8ft neck)
I just put a goosneck in my truck last nite and pulled a freinds dads horse trailer to checkit out. This was the first time I have pulled a goosneck trailer before. I like the way it pulled compared to a bumper pull. The only thing I will have to get used to is backing it. I have always used bumper pull traielers and I can back one of those realy good and this thing took a little getting used to. I will have to adjust the timeing and how much I turn when backing now.

I agree...
Although i have nothing but bumper pull trailers, i do pull goosenecks every so often, Dad cannot have one cause of the tools behind his truck, I on the other hand can have them, and I perfer the gooseneck 100 times over the bumpers for anything. Heck i pull a gooseneck any chance i get for the sheer joy of pulling it...

The tend to be easier on the truck, more distribution, easier to manuever than tag trailers, and yes they do look good...

Yeh, I noticed the only disadvantage to a 5th wheel or gooseneck is the turning radius. That sign or pole will come up much quicker with one of those. When I first started driving with a gooseneck, I was quite surprised to see the street lamp just miss the rear of my trailer on a turn, when I thought I had done it just right. After that, I took larger turns.
