Gooseneck Trailer
Gooseneck Trailer
I'm looking to get into towing stuff just about anything to make more money than what I'm doing now. I'm looking for gooseneck trailers but don't know how heavy is to heavy for my type of truck. I'm thinking about something that has ramps for just in case I tow farm tractors, a car or whatever.
bigtex has what you are looking for. here is a pix of a 20,000 lb rated trailer with a load that i could not get the ramps to fold back, you can see them tied to the truck. texas is more lenient than some other states. legally you need a D.O.T.number, get the truck re-titled and re-registered for the gross combined weight that includes the maximum load weight along with a CDL good for tractor trailer as your truck is now a tractor. if you go out of Texas going east you are not going to get very far. you can get a truckers atlas at a truck stop that shows the weigh stations and you can avoid them but risk getting random stop. run at night is best. as far as weight on your 2500 if you go G rated tires, bd exhaust brake and a maxbrake controller you can go 40,000 lbs cgw. i just noticed you have the pos junk toy p3 controller, get it off and give it away and only use the maxbrake.
I will be needing a gooseneck hitch. What do you all recommend? I'm wanting a ball that either can be removed or hidden in the bed so I can use my bed for other things. My brother-in-law said something about a door that flips up to take out the ball and then flips back down?? The only thing I saw on the internet that what I thinks what he is talking about is a
above-bed gooseneck/ fold-down gooseneck.
above-bed gooseneck/ fold-down gooseneck.
[QUOTE=carl48;3166408]the blueox is many times stronger and better than the b&w
Carl48- can you explain to me how it the blue ox is stronger when they have the same rating? Also the b&w is a two in one hitch compared to just a gooseneck?

i agree on the b&w being better for a 2 in one but he stated he needed only gn the blue ox is rated 30,000 lbs i thought the b&w was only rated 30,000 on the 5th wheel. we run a fleet of trucks and have first hand experience with all 3 types in accidents forget ratings the blueox hands down the strongest could not locate the b&w pix

I too say go with the B&W.. Mine is rated at 33,000lbs for the goose, it has a better locking system than the Blue Ox as the lock pin goes completely through and not just into the sides of the ball. Plus if the chance for hauling 5th wheel trailers comes up he could easily buy the companion that just fits into the goose ball. From the pictures I have seen on the net recently the mounting of the blue Ox relies on 4 brackets that mount to the side of the frame close together, those 4 brackets are the similar to the 8 brackets used to mount my last 5ver hitch a DSP. The B&W uses large plates that wrap part of the frame. There are also other accessories that can just slip into the same goose mount.
