gooseneck hitch options

looking for a gooseneck hithch for my short bed. i like the b&w but i have the inner wheel liners in my truck and i don't want to have to tear them up so i can have access to the lever to drop the ball. what else is a good hitch? maybe a reese style hitch that has the rails and you can attach or remove a gooseneck hitch or fifth wheel hitch to it?

Go with the B&W you would be way more happy with it. I too have the linners and i just cut a 5'' whole to acess the lever and its no biggie. I had B&W also in my 96 short box and it was a great fit in there plus with a B&W you can get this little guy if your worryed about clearance issues.

hitch options

You also might want to look at a popup gn hitch. They have two models a spring loaded one and aflip over. The flip over was recommended by the local shop as more trouble free, but my B+W also had gotten stuck/frozen to where I had to beat it out from under the truck. Also the 4" extenders from popup are cheaper than B+W (retail-109.00 vs. 189.00).

at least with the B&W you can beat it out if it gets froze but i just make a habit of leaving it up durning the winter more or less its always up hardly down but the pop up hitch the one that lays over and locks with a bolt good luck getting that thing to stand up if you get gravel or any other debri in there and if it gets froze its a major jerk to get out cause you cant beat it from the bottom.

Reese Signature Series hitch comes in a gooseneck as well. All the mounting is under the box to,, so once you remove it, all you have left is 4 lil mounting brackets in the box, and then if you buy a camper, you can get the 5th wheel that hooks right up to it. Takes a min to either remove or swapp it out to the other one

B&W also has a fifth wheel unit that couple of friends have and use and like them really well.

It goes right into the whole all ready there for the ball.

A buddy of mine has one of the flip up hitches, and I guess I like my B&W better. I run the Companion 5th wheel hitch, mainly because I didn't want rails in the bed.

I also have the rear wheel liners, and I just cut an oval in the driver's side with a jigsaw with a finetooth blade. After skinning my hand, I learned it is a good idea to round the edge of the opening off with some sandpaper...

I think there might be a photo of my wheel liner in the gallery, that shows the hole.

Dodge Cowboy, No, I didn't manage to make it down to the fair, but the GF was down at the Sheriff's booth. One of these years I need to check it out.

Turbo Dreams, if you don't need the hitch to be removeable, then I'd think one of the fixed ones might be better/cheaper. Though I like my B&W, they aren't that cheap, and pulling/installing the 5th wheel hitch requires tools.

popup

DodgeCowboy, you should look at the popup web site. You are thinking about the wrong style. sometimes in the winter i have to flip the ball to haul certain items, but the popup looks like it could freeze in too. Acces. are cheaper, but both hitches are good ones. I had a B+W, my friend has a popup.

The one that I thought was the "flip up" one was the square one that the ball lays down sideways? maybe i was thinking about the wrong one now that i think about it i have seen the pop up one in the western horseman and if memory recalls its simular to the b an w
