Gooseneck conversion
Weight and moment discussions can be a long and drawn out exercise.
That is what was considered when they designed the adapter I use. If you look carefully, you notice that the ball connector is directly below where the king pin sat with the original extended pin box coupler. The gusset was designed to absorb any forward or aft "torsional" stresses caused by acceleration or deceleration. Some of the lesser engineered adapters merely bolt on over the kingpin. Although the weight transfer point remains unchanged, there is the concern of the back and forth stresses that it may encounter.

It looks much better than the ones that just clamp on the pin- with those, that would seem to be the weak point(where it mounts to the pin). I see your gusset, but unless it has some kind of dampner to "absorb" the shocks, it is simply an extension of the trailer hitch "arm"- It will increase the stress where the hitch is mounted to the trailer frame. When you look at the whole system, the pivot points, where different elements come together and the length between them are all that is needed to figure the force being placed on any point in the system(in this case, where the hitch is mounted to the trailer frame). I do agree that your hitch looks pretty stout as far as how it is mounted to the factory hitch arm. That said, it seems that even the "pin grabbers" are used on a good deal of 5ths with no problems that I have heard of. I do know that the place I tow for does not allow them, but I don't know what they base that on.
we have a 30' wells fargo box trailer that we made our own fith wheel to gooseneck conversion for, so that if you had to haul it with a fiver receiver, it just required to remove some bolts and you were ready to go. we used it to haul tools and materials around for job sites. never had any problems.
