Going rate on 97 20+4 gooseneck
Anyone tell me what the going rate on the average 5-10 year old 20'+4' or 5' dovetail single wheel dual axle gooseneck trailer is?
The gooseneck I am looking at is a 97 Loadmaster 20'+4' dovetail dual axle single wheel, 8 lug, 7k axles, think its got brakes on both axles, its been stored out of the weather its whole life, low miles, wood deck in great shape, single 1 speed jack, good lights/wiring. Sale is $3500. I am cheap so it seems a little high.
I am looking for something just to pull a pickup truck on, be it for truck pulling, hauling a parts truck, pickup bed etc. I figured a single wheel 20'er would do fine. Regular cab pickup is about 16.5-17' long, crewcab long bed is 20.5' long. Thanks for any ideas and opinions. Bill.

That's really not bad of a price. I bought a '95 Pace Setter 3 years ago for $3000 and I had to replace a plank on the deck and fix the pass. side taillight wiring. It's a 20'er with a 4' beaver tail and an 8' over shot, dual 7K lb. axles, brakes on both axles, and came with a diamond plate aluminum toolbox.
I'd say that's a pretty good deal on the trailer. Never really heard anything bad about Loadmaster trailers. I'd snag it up if I were you.

i have looked into trailers like that to haul hay and that price seems about right, i dont really think that is all that bad for the trailer. especially since the bed is still in good shape. If the tires are good i would go for it.
A few things to look for. Make sure it has the load range E-tires on it, that's how people like to hide alot of expense, D's are alot cheaper but don't handle the weight to use the axles. The price is fair but if you watch E-bay and are not in a huge hurry alot of trailers similar to that go pretty cheap. I got a triple 7000# axle with brakes on all three, 34' gooseneck off there last summer for $2600. Especially being single wheels, everbody looking at the bigger trailers want duals. They also tend to go cheaper during the winter cause nobody needs em till spring.
Yeah I think I heard him say he only payed $4500 new in 97?? One owner is a good thing too. Said probly less than 10k miles on it. I think I can get it for $3k. Probly fair. ?

I've talked to a couple of my buddies that are into trailers, and one who is a trailer dealer. They all said pretty much the same thing, that Loadmaster is a fairly high quality trailer and that the price is reasonable.
I paid $2500 for a 97 Keifer GN flatbed singal wheel dual axle 14,000lbs. Good condition, 20+5ft dovetail by 8 ft wide. I think i got a good deal. I put a couple new tires under it. Fixed a couple of lights. New brakes also. So i spent another 350-400.

If the trailer is close to you, then grab it up.
It sounds like it has been taken care of and, being kept inside, the floor should be in good shape.
I wouldn't worry too much about the tires, as they are the simplest thing to fix.
But, I would make certain that the wheels are SIXTEEN inch, and not the expensive to replace, and impossible to find, 16.5 inch wheels.
If it had 16.5 wheels, I would knock $500 off the value, as it would cost about that by the time you got them all switched to sixteens, more if you switched them at once.
Remeber you pay for what you get, the difference between a Pequea, BetterBuilt, Anderson, Ridgeline is way different from companys like Kaufman, Hudson, and Down 2 Earth.
its all about the steel and cunstruction. No I-beam construntion means I wouldn't my it. Thannel is OK but really only half of an I beam. Welds have to look the same everywhere. Not of that flame-cut-i-can-still-see-the-slag crap either. Fewer stronger piesces of steel rather than a bunch of little ones. Also any visable griding, is and instant no sale.
