Going camping, how do I secure generator from theft?
Actually after thinking about it.... I would just get a standard large dog crate and stick it in there>> still chained up of coarse.... Camo can be the best security....
My buddy made a platform to mount the genny such that the bolts are not accessible. The platform is extra long so he can drive onto the platform to hold it down. He did use plywood, but we feel pretty safe around here.
Another material, steel or aluminum maybe. Just an idea.

Get a model T coil and small 6v battery, wire it to the genny (make sure the genny isn't grounded) with a remote key-fob type switch and turn it on when you leave. You could mount the battery, switch and coil inside of a gallon jug with an access hole in the side and zip-tie the jug to the genny frame to disguise the onboard 'sound (when they touch it
they scream!) system'.
they scream!) system'.
I don't think there is ANY way you can protect it from being stolen (if someone really wants it). SO..... my guess is you have to make it so no one wants to steal it. You have to make it "unattractive", strip any ident badges or stickers off it take some spray cans of paint but really ugly colors and paint it in a mixture. Once dry use some oil and wet it down then throw dirt on it. Keep it in a ratty wooden box made from old fence boards and leave spaces so you can see whats inside but not real well and keep a padlock on it to keep the honest people out.

Out of sight , out of mind. Need to put it in something then lock it in a way that you cant see the lock. Takes time to look for things so they probably will pass it by if they can't see it.

One of things you can do is paint it a different color. Thieves out there can spot a Honda from a mile away. Change that Honda red to something else so the eye doesn't catch it so easily. I keep mine in my truck at all times, chained, and locked (canopy helps too). Good advice from all the other posters, good luck.
If ime not runing it I use a cable(not nitro cable but simaler) and padalock it to the frame of the camper. I roll it under the camper and put other worthles junk around it to hide it. At nite I roll it out away from the camper and put it between 2 ATVs with a tarp over all of them and then cable it to one of the ATVs. I leave the ends open so that we can let it run under there and still get air. Of course the only palce I have ever used it is in Colorado far out in the mountains and there is no one around so for the most part I am just keeping the forest critters honest but I feel better.
A mounted gun turret hooked up to motion sensors should do the trick. Thieves should be shot on site in my book. To be on the safe side load it with blanks and just scare the **** out of them. Look for some one changing their shorts and you have the culprit.
On a serious note, good luck and happy camping.

At least my way you will still have the generator to fix yourself.
