Generator Information

I have been intending to purchase a generator for several years now. The storm we had come through San Antonio and the resulting 24 power outage a couple weeks ago has brought this back to the forefront of my attention. In my research to find a suitable generator or pair of generators, I came across the following website about an owner's experience with the Yamaha EF2400iS which is similar in functions and capabilities to the Honda EU2000 series. I think I may end up getting a pair of these. A single Honda EU2000 I rented was not capable of starting the 13.5 BTU A/C in the TT I use. Further research shows this unit to be $200-$400 dollars cheaper. Pro and Cons on various sites seemed to indicate the same reliability and level of service as the Honda. I am NOT trying to sell anything to anyone, just sharing what information I have learned so far.

I have a friend with one of these, seems to work great.

I have a EU2000, and plan on getting another one.

I also RV with a buddy who has a Yamaha generator but I think it is more equivelent to the EF3000iSE/B.

As far as the generator is concerned though, the Yamaha is very quiet and fuel efficient and has been trouble free since he bought it I am guessing 3 years ago.

I wouldnt hesitate to buy one after seeing his in use. Runs the AC no problem as well as anything in the well equiped 5th.

I went with a cheapo yellow box. Does the job great, but it is bigger, heavier, and way way way louder. When we boondock around people, I plug into him to make coffee in the morning cause his is so quiet.

I just noticed the ad says enough juice to fire 13.5 KW A/C units.. I would say most times... It will fire my buddies, but if it cycles a lot and the compressor has any sort of head pressure it will trip the overload on the gen set.

I have the Yamajamer and it is a great little generator. My travel trailer has a 13.5 AC and it will handle it OK. Just like AH said, if it starts to cycle frequently it may trip. I just adjust the thermostat on the AC to colder so it doesn't cycle and open a beer. Bottom line is, it will work fine but is close to maxed out. That said, I have hauled it to Canada on fishing trips twice and it is invaluable. I thought it was the best combination of power, quietness, one guy can lug it if he aint a wussie, and it can fit in a float plane! Two of them and I could run the world!

I don't boondock much, and have a hard time justifying spending that much on a generator. I see Boliy has a 3kw for about $1k and you can buy a 2 year guarantee for an additional $50, and that includes free shipping both ways if it needs repair. Sounds like a deal, but would like to hear from someone who has one. anybody??

I have a 2400is and think it's great! Powers the one aircon fine - but my aircon is a new model and supposedly high output/low draw.

I use a gen about 2-3 times a year so I couldn't justify a Yamaha or Honda. I bought a knockoff on Ebay for $185 and it runs my 13.5 ac just fine plus its super quite (inverted type) and is depenable and doesn't weigh a ton. I think they're labeled as a Pitbull but as long as its an inverter type it'll be pretty quite.

The yamaha's do indeed have a good reputation. Hondas can be purchased quite a bit below retail value. EU2000's are advertised around $1000 for in the RV mags, and usually a dealer will meet that if you ask politely.

One EU2000 will start my AC without voltage drop, but only if I turn the econo throttle off, and shut the breaker for the converter/charger off.

It is working the gen awful hard, though, so I'd have a pair if I were going to make that a habit.

It looks like you found the deal. I am having a hard time parting with my money for something I will only use occasionally. I am still trying to find someone who has had a Boliy, as they look interesting.

Thats impressive.. My EU2000 drops to 75V under the same conditions, on my high efficiency 9,000 AC

RV.net has some decent reviews on the Boliys from the last year or 2. The Boliy guy has the 2 year paid postage warranty. These seem to give you the most for your money and are light weight. 3300 watts, 70llbs. I will be needing to get one soon. 3300 watts (28 amps) for the same price as a Honda 2000. Has DSI, may be better than inverter.

I have the EF2400 and its a great generator. It runs my 13.5 btu ac on my rv just fine. I would not hesitate buying this one. I have went through 2 other gen sets trying to be cheap and finally bit the bullet and spent the money on a quality generator. I would recommend it in a heatbeat.

My dad and I both have the EF2400 from Yamaha. Mine will start and run my 13.5K A/C with no problems. Thats the entire reason I bought it.

Honda said their 2000 won't and I didn't want to buy two and run them in parallel.

The Yamahas are just as quiet, fuel efficient, and durable as the Hondas.

Link to Boliy. I've had one for a few months. Just did a 4 day no hookup trip at the beach and it worked great. Very similar to the Yamaha. Started every time on the 2nd pull. Runs my AC and microwave just fine. Pretty quiet too!
