I thought of getting too, but it will probably take about 200k miles to pay for itself. That means about 10 to 15 years?

I called and talked to Gear Vendor and spoke with them about their product a while back and one thing that was a big turn off was they said you should avoid using reverse if you are towing any type of trailer and they shouldn't be used with an exhaust brake. The way the clutch system in them works it doesn't hold up well to a load spinning in the wrong direction. I tow a heavy 5th wheel so I decided against the unit. Eric

Plus the service intervals stink, it needs a fluid change more often than the Cummins!

And a gear change would be allot cheaper. There's another OD/UD unit out there, I just can't remember the name.

I have thought about getting one for a while, I want to keep my 4.10 rear end gears so I can yank stuff easier. Hell for the price maby I will swap the 5 speed out for a 6 speed

Tried the Gear Vendors and it didn't hold up pulling heavy loads. Could not back up if there was an incline to unload the trailer. After it cooled down, it worked fine. Called them and asked about parts for it, they would sell the parts but would not sell a manual. They wanted to sell a rebuilt unit but they didn't want me to work on mine. It lasted about 100K miles. The sales people are nice but wait until you call with a problem, they are rude. Would not buy another one if it was half price. Don't think the other company that makes one is still in business. I did gain 1 mpg with it but that would take a long time for it to pay for itself at todays fuel prices.

I called a few dealers about them and was told by a couple they no longer carried them due to vibration and quality issues so I dropped the idea.

My dad put one behind the 454 in his '90 Chevy dually. It dropped his freeway rpm from something like 3500 to 2000. It worked great for him.
