I don't think the sky is falling. Yes, fuel prices are climbing to insane levels.
But so far people haven't really stopped spending money. That tells me the typical American thinks they are just fine. Most people don't spend money if they don't think they have a single hope of repaying it. Housing prices fell, but that's just cyclical and it's time to pay the piper for a bit.
For those on a fixed income-- be glad it's fixed and not broken

We can grumble, bicker, and complain all we want but the truth is there are too many people with too much money that will pay the price no matter what. The oil companies will just make up the difference on those people.
What I'am trying to say is there is too much of difference between the poor and the rich. The middle class is getting smaller. The poor will get poorer and the rich will go on with their lives spending more and making everyone else poorer. Sure some will benefit off the rich but it won't be the common laymen.
That's my rant for today.

The high fuel prices are killing me. We camped a a lot and have many more trips lined up in the future.I will keep going until I can't come up with money.
I will never put my vote in for any candidate that has any connections with the oil companies in the future.WE all know no matter what they tell us they are not going to cut there own throats. One day they need to go back to the crooks they grew up with. They can blame it on everybody else and all the stupid reasons but we know there are major oil companies from the US in all the countries and places we blame.A good example is when the storm was going to hit the Gulf and they raised the price per barrel before the storm just in case it might hit.
I am sorry this is a very poor subject with me and a lot of others.

I am curious about something, do you buy bottle water to drink? If so have you ever figured out what this is per gallon. If you buy a pint of water at $1.50 per bottle that would $9.60 a gallon. To me this is a lot more expesive than diesle fuel.
I do not mean to put you down in your comments but we need to look at everthing we buy and the cost of these items.

No but I sure can drink tap water that I am paying a reasonable price for. If I had to pay $9.60 a gal for for tap water that would be a problem. So you agree that the price is in prospective. Do we have a tap diesel that we can use? I don't pay money for bottles of drinking water.
There was a statement made years ago on the Capitol Steps "The American People will take anything if it is a little at a time"

Oh, and by the way.............part of the reason the price of a bottle of water is high is because the truck that delivered it runs on high priced diesel.

We`ll I Look At It Like This ,
Ive Listened To All The Experts Explain The High Cost Of Fuel, and How They Deal With A Fraction Of A Cent In Total Profit- AND they Seem To Be Able To Paint A Picture That Apeases A Lot Of People.
Then I Watch The Quartily Profit Reports -hmm Now Thats Strange!
Oil Companys Have Been Able To Change Those Minimal Profits To Make Them The Most Out-standing Profit Margins Of All Companys!
Just My ,02 Cents
Oh And We Are Still Dumb Enough To Stand In Line And Shiver While We Fill Up !

i look at it two ways;
the first, i hate the fact that our diesel prices do not reflect the actual cost to refine, and the only reason for its high price is greed, plain and simple. thats makes me want to avoid the pump as much as possible and encourage others to do the same, make them feel it in their pocket book by not traveling at all.
the second, i don't want the terror factor to rule my life, the never ending possibility of another overseas attack, hurricane, or some other made up scare tactic thats keeps fuel prices on the never ending climb to WAY OVER PRICED.....
now i'm not saying that i can't afford it... i just don't don't want to have to, i'd rather support my economy by buying from LOCAL shops, new tires for my motorcycle, valve adjustments, or tint for my truck.
i hate that there is no end in sight, no amount of saving or planing that can prepare us for next years fuel prices, who knows what they are going to be?!
i just go about it my own way, looking for fuel saving options at my local shops and and buying at the cheepest gas stations possible. making the most of my fuel dollar.

I am certainly not a fan pf the current fuel prices, but 30 years ago I paid 50 cents a gallon and earned $1.50 an hour. I now earn $43 an hour and do not pay $14 per gallon. Never imagined I would buy water in a bottle!!

Wife and I were just talking about when the price of gas doubled from 1973 to 74. Than starting in 78 it again quickly doubled and for awhile, you could only get gas on odd or even days depending on your license plate number. Than as now, we just planned our trips a little better.

Come on you guys, stop worrying! The government and the oil companies have a plan to take $4 a gallon cooking oil, convert it into biodiesel, so we can buy it for only $6/gallon
