fuel mileage

getting about 8 miles to the gallon pulling my toy hauler. I have 4.10 gear,
trailer was about 14k loaded, running about 60 to 65mph, rpm 2000 to 2400
in tow haul. does this seem right? Thanks for any help.

Yeah seems about right maybe a bit low. I get about 11-12 pulling heavy but I have 3.73's and a manual and from what I have heard/read manuals get better fuel mileage than autos and also well the gears 3.73's will get better than the 4.10's.

You're at about 21K combined, what makes you think you'll be doing better than 8mpg? Let me guess, somebody told you that you'd be getting 15MPG towing 14K lbs.

I've read some pretty outlandish claims about MPG on these boards.

The only thing guys exaggerate more than MPG is the size of their *******.

My fiver is almost 11K lbs. I have 3.73s and only average about 10MPG. Add another ton and a half and 8MPG isn't that bad.

I am towing 10k with the truck in my sig. I usually drive between 65 and 68 mph and get between 10 to 11 mpg.

I pull a 44ft enclosed trailer and it weights about 15500 loaded my mileage was gettin bad it dropped to 8 mpg over the last year

Then I figured my truck had a problem so I started to check it out couldn't find anything out of normal.....until I traveled a route that had some big hills it seemed like my turbo whistle was louder then normal and my EGT was high....after a stop I checked it out and found my turbo hose clamps where loose on the whole system and one clamp had come off the hose

After tightening all the clamps I was back to my normal 12 mpg

I pull the same trailer as Hunter 11 and get the same milage. I'm still trying to find the sweet spot and it seems that under 65 or over 69 MPG drops.

Here are the numbers I just came up with. We hauled a 30' Desert Fox 5er from Portland Oregon to Gordons Well (Yuma AZ). Weighing in close to 11K. We went I-5 speeds of 60-65 through the mountains and over the grapevine.
The total round trip milage was 2550 miles an we used 228 gallons of fuel for an average of 11.18 miles per gallon. My trock is stock with an auto and 373 gears

Ill start by saying I have a huge slonge, I found when I was towing that even dropping from 68mph to 62mph raised my mpg, it does get boring, but the RPM`s are down and the mileage is better, doesnt seem to matter much when your only going a few hundred miles, but on a 5000 to 10,000 mile trip it add`s up. and thats my .2c worth.
