First real pull.

Had the truck now since November last year. Just traded my p/u camper for a Jayco Qwest 282V. Pulled it from 5000' Loveland, CO to 7500' Woodland Park, CO. No problems with 2001.5 QC 4x4, auto, 3.55, and EZ. Towed great at 75. Caught a lot of traffic (stop and go)on the way home and averaged 12mpg. Seems decent for probably about 7500lb weight. The sticker inside says 6899lbs dry. An Emjay would be nice, but not necessary. If I could just get those stupid cars out from in front of me going up the hills. I thought with the 3.55's it would want to downshift more often. I would lock out OD below 55 and I think it came out of OD once. Nice low torque. Can't wait to get it out again!

Re:First real pull.

Wheezer,

I made almost the identical trip (Windsor to Woodland Park) last Sep. with my 1500 gasser pulling a 25' TT weighing around 6300. Got 8 mpg and had to stop for gas in Manitou Springs. Also, I was only doing 35 to 40 at times going up Hwy 24. That's why I also bought a CTD in November.

Just got back from South Dakota. TT was loaded heavy, closer to 7000 for this trip. Got 12 mpg doing 75 across windy WY. I was very happy. Made it from Cheyenne to SD on one tank.

With the 5 speed, shifting wasn't an issue. Throw her in 5th, set the cruise and drive. Only dropped speed for traffic. Truck didn't care.

Re:First real pull.

We were only doing about 40 up HWY 24. Traffic was too heavy. That's where an Emjay would have been nice, but I could tell when the TC was locked. I wouldn't trust that the wife could tell the diference though, if she was driving. I gassed up in Lomgmont (cheap gas) and had a quarter tank when we got back to Longmont. Took an hour and a half to get from Woodland Park to the north end of CO Springson the way home.
