first pull

i have to pull my 27.5 ft 5th wheel trailer for the first time with the new truck in the owner manual its says on page 328 avoid towing a trailer for the first 500 miles or 805 kms of vechicle operation.doing so may damage your vechicle. and then on the next line it says during the first 500 miles (805 kms) of trailer towing limit your speed to 50 mph (80 kms/h). i dont think i will put that many miles on the truck before i have to pull the trailer and when i am pulling the trailer the trip is very short i dont like the idea of going only 50 mph on the hwy i think it could be a traffic hazzard the speed limit here in alberta is 100kms/h do you think the little bit more speed would be okay any imput on this subject would help a great deal

they want you gears to set and the engine to wear in a bit, try to get as many miles on the truck as possible before hand

varying your speed while towing and maybe stop after about 25 miles and let the gears cool, do this a few times and call it good, i have done the same thing to new trucks before with no problems

just be sure and stop and let the gears cool, maybe physically touch the rear diff cover to be sure they aren't overheating

your trailer can't weigh that much more than mine, i can't see a 7000 lb trailer killing a heavy duty tow rig unless you are pulling heavy grades

thanks for your imput rockhound i wont be pulling any big grades say like in the mountains but there is a few hills i will check the diff for heat.my old 96 gmc 6.5td had very little problems pulling the trailer and i think it only had 200hp. very interested in how the new truck will perform i am hoping that the performance of the new truck is good enought to pull my 16 ft boat behind the trailer(in alberta we can pull boats or trailers behind our trailers if its attatched to a 5th wheel hitch and if your overall length is 20 meters or less) i think total weight would be around 8200 lbs i think this truck should handle that you would think but that wont be for awhile till i get some miles on it

1st towing trip comming up

I currently have 6700 miles on my truck. I have towed my boat around town (#6000-5500 lbs), 20 miles or so.I plan on heading to the Ozarks for Memorial Day. The trip is about 450 miles. Do I need to stay below 50 mph during the first 500 miles still? I could pull the boat around these next few weekends if it would help.
