300# is a lot of extra weight, I would have to get rid of a couple of my toys if my hitch was that heavy...

My vote is also Pullrite, for the reasons already mentioned. Further, there is a Goose-neck alternative, if needed. Perhaps the best part is the HD rails that attach directly to the CTD frame, which I think are pre-drilled(Don't know that for sure).
You pay more for the Pull-rite, but you will enjoy whenever you hook up. You will not wear it out.

B&W Turnover ball

OK guys I have had a Turn over Ball with the Companion Hitch on my 04 Dully for about a year and love it Im pulling a 2004 Teton weight of 16200 dry weight I have had no problems I like this one because it is so easy to remove and you have the whole bed empty. The head pivots from side-to-side (a full 7 degrees) to help prevent binding, as well as from back-to-front. A single hydraulic shock absorber helps to stabilize the side-to-side motion. The shock also holds the head level for easier hook-up. Vibration-dampening polyurethane bushings act as the base for the front-to-back pivot of the unique saddle assembly of the coupler.

Love my Pullrite. Never had a problem with it. Take out 4 pins and it leaves me with a flat bed. I did have to help someone the other day with a Reese. The only way it would open up was to use a crowbar on the jaws. Not sure what the problem was; couldn't get the handle to move. They said this was not the first time. They are going to take it to a shop that handles Reese and see what they
say.

I have a Reese 16k dual pivot slider which has worked flawless for me the last 3 years. I pull a 29 foot fifth wheel trailer. Before purchasing mine, I did a fair bit of research before deciding on the Reese. The double jaw locking mechanism has worked like a charm.

As per one of the posts earlier, the rail system is not interchangeable between brands.

The Reese that I have is easy to remove, just pull 4 pins and lift out. The rails remain in the bed however I have installed a thick 1" rubber mat, which I cut to sit between rails and on each side and this evens out the bed nicely.

If you have not purchased a hitch yet, I would say you can't go wrong with a Reese. If you choose another brand, it means drilling more holes in your bed and possibly the frame too if things don't line up.

Cheers.

Does anyone mind telling me what the rough price for the turn over ball 5th wheel hitch is?

Hidden Hitch makes a very good 18K unit at quite a bit less money than the Reese and it looks and works like Reese. Some say they are owned by Reese. This will hitch to your Reese setup - - in fact mine is a Reese mounting brackets and rails.

procrastinator,

Roughly $325 for the goose setup, plus about $650 for the 5th wheel...

I think I gave around $1100 for the hitch, an electronic controller, and a brake cable extension...

Take a look at this unit. Dave Smith Dodge in Kellog Idaho sells them, or I suppose they can be ordered direct. I have the hitch and the 5 th wheel adaptor and am quite pleased with the quality of constrction , and as a ex welding inspector I am quite picky. It was easy to install --after getting over the shock of cutting a hole in the new bed !!!
