Can you give us specifics in making that statement? What is the braking horsepower of the PAC compared to the Jacobs?

I see what Fiver Bob is getting at I have driven both Pac and my own with the Jake and I find the Jake has more holding power. both trucks had 3:73 gears and the same trailer in the Canadian Rockies. My Jake has been on for 223,000kilometers or 138,000 miles and I have not had any trouble at all with it.

I built my own air system cuz I could do it better and I didn't want the compressor under the hood like Pacs setup. I used >300psi,4" cpvc for the tank (about 1.5 gal), tank drain, 150psi PR, tank check valve and a pressure switch with an unloader. It doesn't take much volume but I got rid of my tiny compressor that I kept under the seat and found a Viair 350C online. My compressor cuts in at about 95psi and that does fine. I went with pressure operated cuz I needed air anyway for all the other stuff. I got down to BD or Pac and found a little better price on the Pac. My FIL has a turbo mount Jake and he says mine works better. Craig

If memory serves, they both make near the same retard HP at 2500 rpm.

The Pac retards more at lower RPMs. After installing 2 Pacs on customer vehicles, I sold my Jake and got the PAC because it was stonger in the lower RPMs. How often am I decending a hill at 2500+ RPM? Almost never, so it makes sense for me and most here.

I didn't like how the cylinder froze when it got cold and didn't work till the exhaust warmed up though.

I asked the question about specifics because I have driven trucks with both units and find little difference if any. I note the Jacobs site does give a HP/RPM rating chart whereas PAC only offers a PSI/RPM chart. Obviously PSI does not answer the question of HP which changes with RPM. It just struck me as odd when one says the PAC holds better than the Jacobs yet I sure didn't feel any difference. And, I don't scream down inclines at 2500 RPM to make mine work - - works great at lower RPMS and I am towing a 16,000# fiver on some very interesting little hills - - like 12% grades - - very interesting. Mine has functioned flawlessly for a whole bunch of miles over every corner of our USA, CANADA AND MEXICO.

I was just curious as to what I had missed.
