Electric brake controller which one???

I need to replace my electric brake controller, the unit will shortout at times and turn my brake lights on. I want to upgrade the unit with a system that operates smoother. I currently have a U-haul model that you can adjust voltage and speed of engagement. What are the best models to use out there? I was looking at the Prodigy with software version 2.6. I only tow a 10K bobcat trailer on weekends. Thanks for you help.

Thanks for the replies. I like the Prodigy but I'll take a look at the Max brake.

Prodigy is good and proven, and is $89:

Maxbrake is good and is $349:

The newfangled controllers are all the craze and I really like the idea of the pressure-proportional Maxbrake and others but for the combination of price and functionality... I just bought a Prodigy on Ebay for $50 shipped.

the max brake or smart brake makes the others look like junk, if you compare them you will never use any thing else, they are in direct proportion to pedal pressure the only draw back is the price if you only pull a trailer once in a while, spending $300 more for a good one is the question

I have the Prodigy and it works great! I tow a 15,000lb fifth wheel 2 to 3 times a month with no issues.

I tow at least 2-3 times a week a 14 foot dump trailer for my side business and the maxbrake is awesome. Completely proportional. With the TT behind, (which I love, no more sleeping on the ground) you don't even know you have a trailer when braking or starting off from a stop light. No jerking or surging. Very linear and VERY safe. Expensive yes, but once you have it, you'll smile every time you stop.

The MaxBrake is an acceptional control and is becoming more popular among the advanced towers everyday. The Tekonsha Prodigy, Valley Odyssey, and Hayes Genesis series controls are very acceptional controls as well. Of course the Prodigy was the first of this technology and gets the most press. They are very good controls, but their technology has become dated, hence the P3. The Hayes G2 is coming out in about a month and shows promise that it will hold its own against any proportional control. I am interested to see how people react to its new audiable feature.
