down hill braking?
Ran into a few hills a last week and it was pretty obvious that the old 47re has about zero engine braking ability towing the 5th wheel. I was in little hills but decided that I'd be on the brakes big time if I ever got into any real mountains.
What are the best options improving the engine braking ability of the 03 with a 47re? Exhaust brakes work with this combination? I assume the converter has to be locked for them to work. Is there some controller that keeps the converter locked up? I just can't get my head around how the exhaust brake would work with my setup.
Any mods help the exhaust brake work better? Trans/converter mods? Any input appreciated.

Get the Pacbrake PXRB brake kit. it comes with the tranny controller and everything you need to install it. You won't be disappointed.
Just got back from holidays myself through the moutains, 8% grade O/D lockout brake would hold the truck and trailer steady at 80km/hr, only had to use service brakes lightly and not very often.
