I recently got my big fiver from the shop and was somewhat appalled by the Parts cost. The Axles are 7k, 12=1/4" x 2-1/2" drums. The Magnets are $61 each and the seals $32 each. I went out to Dexter's site, and that is list. Any idea why these cost so much? I think previously the magnets from another supplier were $20 and the seals maybe $5 each or so.

 

I checked the Dexter Parts site (http://dexteraxle.com/inc/sdetail/1075) and found that parts for the axles you have are substantially higher than those of their other axles. The seals for yours, for example, are shown at $93 for 2 compared to those of my smaller axles at about $11 for 2. The same is probably true for the magnets. My axles are rated at 6K. Ain't nothing fair about it.

I was wondering if there was any reasobale expanation. I makes no sense at all. I am sure their are others that make parts for Dexter that do not rob you.
I feel viloatted. At first i thought the RV store had made an error, until I looked at Dexter's site.
I suspect that there may no competition for those parts?

 

I get all my stuff from Auto Safety House. 4 complete 7k backplates was $300 out the door and I recently got 5200lb seals for about $8@. Craig

 

I just brought the parts to the local auto parts store. Read the bearing and seal numbers to them and walked away with all the parts I needed for allot less $$.
