Update:
I tried the hobby cement in the link above this weekend. It acted like water - had absolutely no noticeable affect on the plastic. I applied it to a clean small section of crack and nothing. Kept brushing on more and still nothing. No softening of the plastic at all. And definitely no melting or welding. Maybe the cap is not ABS? Maybe PVC or ??

I'm think I might try the PVC plastic plumber cement like Oatey. But not sure if that will melt or soften the plastic so it will re-connect to itself. In other words, will the two edges of the crack have to be touching already? The crack is about a half-a-millimeter wide in some spots. It's not touching in all places, but very close. And about 18" long. I see an Oatey product that is labeled "heavy" that says it can fill gaps in Schedule 40 and 80 pipes. But maybe that would be too much of a mess or too thick to end up with a minimal / clean solution.

Sorry that didn't work for you...I was sure it would. I've used it to glue ABS to PVC before so I'm kinda stumped.

olddodgetrucks - Thanks for the suggestion on the plastex. I think I'll give that a try.

And dmurdock - no worries. I have already thought of another possible use for the Bondene that I want to try. Now if I can just remember what it was!

Update: I purchased some plastic epoxy - two-part from an auto-parts store and dremeled out a small grove in the plastic and quickly realized it was painted. That's why the Bondene didn't work before.

I used the epoxy for the widest part of the crack and it seems to be a strong hold. I then dremeled slightly and used the Bondene on the tight portion of the crack and it also worked.

How long each holds will take time to determine. But wanted to give an update on this. The epoxy is an off-white and I'm hoping to do some minor sanding to flatten it and then apply an OEM decal to cover it and a matching one on the other side and make the crack disappear. That is next.

Thanks again for the tips from everyone.
