Class V hitch, where to buy?

I am considering putting a Class V hitch on my truck to replace my current stock class IV.

This trailer has an insane amount of tongue weight with no load in the rear to offset some of that weight. I haven't had any problems so far, but I would feel more comfortable having a little more added capacity.

Where is the best place to get one? I hear Putnam is a good brand. Others? Where is the best place to get one with maybe a dealer in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area?

Try Muscle Trucks off 380 W. of Denton. About 10 miles W.

I found their website, but I don't see anything mentioned about hitches. Do you know if they carry Putnam? other brands?

Heres one for you. Try Uhaul. It has to be a main station yard, but they have & install as well.

I can't speak on the removal of the OEM hitch but the install of the Putnam XDR takes less than an hour and is easy.

JPK....PM sent.

JPK and Equalizer.....Did you buy from a national dealer? May I ask who? I can't seem to find a Dallas/Fort Worth Texas dealer for Putnam. Putnam doesn't seem to offer that info on their website that I can locate.

Thx

Robert,

Just weld up your current bumper and don't worry about it. Thats what I did w/ mine and after hauling 15k worth of liquid fertilizer over the roughest coastal field in our county, I was satisfied with it.

PS...Just make sure if you use a pintle, don't let the pin wiggle its way out and you be dragging 15k by one chain only....but I wouldn't know of any such thing...

Thanks for checking annabelle. That is the same rating as my stocker hitch.

If I make a change it will definately be to go to a Class V. Actually, it's not the problem with the pulling weight...only the tongue weight. That trailer in the pic above weighs just over 8000lbs empty with a little bit of water in it. So even loaded with toys would probably not go over 12k.

The problem I have is the 1800lbs of pin weight and that is why I want to go to the Class V. My stock hitch has done fine and shows no sign of failure, I just want to have a little more capacity for good measure.

By the way, I did contact Putnam directly today and they gave me the names, addresses and phone numbers of 3 local DFW dealers. I don't know why they don't put that on their website to help sell their products.

Hey good to hear from you Hunter! I won't ask if you don't tell how you "know" about dragging 15k with a chain only.

You need to make the SHORT drive up from Fredericksburg and come to a N. TX DTR GTG.

I don't recall the dealer that I purchased from as I did a Google search and located a website that had receiver hitches from a lot of sellers. I started checking each of them and found the one with the lowest price including the shipping.

Sorry I can't be more help than that.
