Class V hitch for the 2003?
Class V hitch for the 2003?
Anyone know what there doing for a larger hitch on the 2003? The problem we are having is we have a 11.3 Lance and we need to extend the reciever about 46" to the rear of the camper. I understand the frame has been re-designed and there is not much meat left for additional mounting for supports. Has anyone got some sort of a soultion yet?
Thanks
Thanks

Check the Towing/Hauling section. I believe some have had good results using the Titan Class V. Don't know if Titan is the manufacturer or just a name given to the hitch.
Re:Class V hitch for the 2003?
Titan is the model of the hitch; a genuine class V; last time I checked, they did not have unit for mine yet, with the factory-installed receiver.
I downloaded a bitmap of a drawing showing the Titan mounting below the existing hitch, so you'd have TWO receiver holes looking out the back of the truck...guess yu cud tow 2 trailers side by side.... ;D

I have the Reese Titan on my truck(2003 dually). It bolts under the hitch that comes on the truck.
I run a 34" extension on my hitch while using my Lance 1025. Seems to work just fine.
Reese makes up to a 48" extension for the Titan set up.
Yes you have two reciever hitches when you get the Titan installed.[img][/img]

Sure looks like there arn't too many obtions for a larger hitch out there yet! I have the 4X2 and the Titan hitch looks like it would put the ball too low. Back to the drawing board.....
Re:Class V hitch for the 2003?
Buy a Reese drop hitch mount it upside down and raise the hitch height if you need more height.
Also the 48" extension that Reese makes has an curve in it to also raise or possible lower the hitch if you put it in upsidedown.
I think the problems stems from the fact that the factory hitch mounts over the frame rails, and to remove it to make room for another hitch would require lifting the bed off the frame rails. I don't think most consumers would want to go through will all that extra expense for another hitch. And hitch OEMs probably don't see too much of a market to design/build/market a replacement hitch like that.
I think Draw-Tite/Reese kept the TITANs installation "simple".

Take a look at www.torklift.com. I believe they have one for the 2003.
Re:Class V hitch for the 2003?
I just went through this with my 03. I ordered the Titan, but it didn’t look right. I had them lift my truck and line it up and it just looked wrong. Mounted too low for my taste. Additionally it didn’t look very sturdy due to the way it had to mount. I must admit, the picture that Moss2904 sent doesn’t look as bad as I thought mine would look. I wonder if he did something custom to make it sit right under the stock hitch.
Regardless, I bought the Torklift and am very happy with it. I feel a little more secure. I bought the 48” extension needed for my rig. I wanted more tongue carrying capacity. The Torklift boasts a 500lb tongue weight capacity when using the 48” extension. If I am not mistaken, the Reese Titan was less. I thought it was only 250lb with the 48” extension. The tongue weight on my boat is 320lbs. I may also have a need to tow a heavier boat someday. Who knows? At least I feel secure.

Did you get it from torklift or a distributor? If distributor then whom?
Also..how did you get a 2003 HO in CA? Is it registered out of state?
BTW...I have 3500 HO 6 spd 4x4 dually. Just bought it and I'm in process of getting it ready for my 11'3"" Caribou.

I went through a Parts dealer, and am embarrassed at what I paid. I was so frustrated with the experience; I just wanted it to be done. I needed to go fishing ya know? I bought the unit through Valley Truck in Stockton, CA, and they installed it. They just cut out the old hitch instead of lifting the bed up and removing it. You can’t tell unless you look underneath, so I was ok with it. I think I was overcharged on the Labor too. Probably won’t go back to them.
My sister lives out of state. She bought the truck. I put 7500 miles on it, and then registered it here.
You will need air bags and rancho 9000 for your setup, and if Caribou has them, I would get the cabover struts. I wish I had. Maybe I will buy myself a birthday present.

LuvMyHO,
Nice looking truck and camper.
I had a couple of questions for you. Does Rancho make shocks for the 03 Dually's now? I checked a while back and the answer I got was no.
Is your truck a 6 speed? Also what rear end ratio is your truck?
On my hitch I had it installed at a hitch shop and as far as I know they did not do anything special.
I think the Reese with a 48" extension is rated for 450/4500 lbs with a standard hitch.

Rancho apparently doesn’t make the front shocks, but they do have shocks for the rear. I don’t have any part #’s for you though. I bought mine through Valley Truck in Castro Valley, Ca.
I updated my profile to show that I have a 6spd and 3.73 rear end for ya.
Yeah, for some reason your setup doesn’t look bad at all. It didn’t look right when I saw how it was going to look on my rig, but then it wasn’t actually mounted so... The Reese is much less expensive. 450lb’s of tongue weight isn’t bad. I probably wouldn’t have complained if they installed it and it came out looking like yours does. Oh Well.

Re:Class V hitch for the 2003?
I was talking with a tech support guy at Putnam hitch - they have a class V for the '03s rated at 10,000lbs (non-weight distribution) but indicate the OEM receiver tube has to be removed. The guy referred to the round tube that the receiver tube is welded to (OEM hitch) as a cross frame support tube and that you should not remove this. The actual frame supports for their hitch should mount underneath the round support tube and use the existing holes in the frame....sounds good except for the cutting of the receiver tube.
Anyone have one of these ? If all I need is an angle grinder to cut the welds and not have to remove the box this might be do-able, but I don't want to cut off the receiver tube and find it doesn't fit.....
