My son moved from MA to NC and had ABF freight drop a pup trailer at his old house then drop it at his new home . Cost less than 1/2 what a U-Haul would have cost .

We rented a U-haul when we moved from AZ back to NJ... it was $100 1-way?????????? I guess nobody wanted to move to this neck of the woods.

ABF has a great concept - I will remember that.

 

My buddy paid about twice that to move locally here. Is there a zero missing somewhere?

 

It's always been that way with U-Haul . They provide very low rates if you move to an area where they have a lot of trucks coming out but few going back in . This is especially true in the Northeast . Don't worry . They make it back putting it to people moving South . Never use U-Haul . ABF is the gest option although the trailers are dock height and no ramps . Not too bad with heavy items if you put them on a pickup then back up to the trailer . If you must have a truck go with Ryder , Penske , or Buget . Don't buy boxes and packing supplies from U-Haul . Get them at WalMart or run a google on moving supplies

 

A three bedroom house will likely use about 20' in a real furnature van size trailer. I bet you would completly pack that trailer you are looking for out with out the car unless your still just getting started and don't have but the very very basics.

Your right on the price for the U-haul. . .the trailers are cheep. 12 ft max box trailers dual axle and I think I paid just over a $100 for a 1k mile drag from Texas to Colorado this past summer. The movers don't do plants, guns, paint etc.

 

Looking about moving about 150 miles away. I checked ABF and they don't do < 300 mile moves.

A BIG 22-26' Penske truck with a DT466 is $284 1-way. Pretty decent price I'd think. U-Haul is 2x that. It's MORE expensive to do a local move because they charge per hour or per day, and per mile on top of that.

I'm guessing this would be hard to beat, any other options ?
