when i do not have a full load to deliver i use a 28' tag along trailer instead of my 53' gooseneck w/sleeping quarters.
this puts me back into a situation where i have to drop 75.00 a nite for hotel rooms
have been looking for a decent slide in truck camper . have no knowledge of them but am assuming an 8' with over cab sleeper is what i would need ,and would still be able to hook a tag along too.
any input would be appreachiated

thats a nightmare. did it with an 8 ft slide in and a 28 ft enclosed car hauler. on a dually.
put a cap on yer truck and use it to sleep in. the slide in just doesnt werk if yer pullin anything heavy. i had sway bar hitch on it too.

How about setting up a cot inside the trailer, all you would need is a roof mounted AC unit, unless your trailer is not enclosed.

How about finding a 8 foot slide in "Pop-up" camper. It would have a low center of gravity and less wind resistance. They make them with hard roofs and hard sides and when rolled up, all the conveniences of home. They are also a lot lighter than a conventional slide in.

I believe that he was talking about a full height ridged slide in. I had one of those that I used as a RV for years. They are top heavy and really drag in a headwind and lean over in a crosswind. The pop up type lowers the roof line to just above the cab reducing the effect of wind in both directions. Also they a lighter in weight because you don't have upper cabinets in the pop up portion. Just a thought. You can probably find a picture of one online someplace.

The tag along car trailer i pull has 8" side walls so i would guess the trailer is nearly as hight as a camper would be ?

yup thats what i had. it was all over the road with the trailer on. 28ft racecar hauler. plus the hitch *** was a kinda scary setup as the ball mt cannot be under the camper so it takes yer leverage against the rear of the truck way out. just didnt werk for me. when a truck went by you cuz you could only do about 55 or 60 they bout blow ya off the road. it was an 9 ft slidein. aluminum sides. standard unit. made one trip about 200 mi ea way and that was the end of that. lotta wieght on the rear of the truck.

That's what I was going to suggest. They are pretty light and I've seen good used ones go for between $1k-$2k. New about $7k and up. Sorta hard to find though.

that might be ebetter! mine was heavy and we ahd to fab a toungue ext to make it tow!!. was a bad scene al the way. went about 200 mi eaway...at 50 mph...shoulve thrown the camper and went back tyo the aIR MATTRESS IN THE TRAILER!!!!

what ever i find it will only be 8' --i do not want to "extend the hitch. Have found a few "lite weight" campers in the 1400# range.

How about this, its got a nice size bed and a good amount of room. Still allows you to pull a gooseneck too! First $50 takes it.
