Try a Prodigy. No comparison to any other. Tekonsha has another model out now that's supposed to be one step again above the Prodigy but I've heard they have a few 'bugs'. The Prodigy is a proven product.

If that doesn't work for you, you might want to think about an electric over hydraulic system for the trailer. Pricey, but worth the investment if you're hauling heavy.

Suggestion,,,, Yes, Get a Brakesmart or a Maxbrake that is controlled by hydrolic brake pressure. Hensley may offer one, I don't know.... I love my Brakesmart.

Exactly, Reg. A lesser controller will hit the 16Amps and start to fade immediately. By beefing up the TruControl, we hold the power as long as the driver wants it. We also overcome inneficiencies in the trailer and truck wiring. I've had just about every controller available and have never seen more than 10Amps sent to the brakes (most don't display it, you have to use a meter). With my TruControl, I get 15.5 Amps.

You'll also notice that the base of the most popular controller on the market is steel. That's not to make it stronger, that's for heat absorption. It will get hot and overheat. The TruControl will never, ever overheat.

Come on, you guys are diesel owners! You know more power is always a good thing!

Happy New Year. Hope to meet a few of you at the Tampa show next month.

Just wanted to say hate I my voyager. Thought I might get used to it. That's the first and last time I tell the dealer I want a brake controller. I'll stick to getting it myself. I am going to look at the prodigy.

Why not say maintain power, instead of more power. Many controls can increase power, I know one in particular can draw upto 60 amps if needed. But you will never need this. Again magnets only need four amps no more no less. You can increase the amps all you want but it makes no difference. If you have a delay mecanism that holds your trailer brakes longer than your truck brakes let your trailer stop your rig. I am not downing the control, heck I would sell them if I could figure out the distinctive advantage of it. So far all I know is that it is a reactionary control, any control that uses a devise to implement proportional braking not tied to the master cylinder or brake pedal, and that it's claim to fame is more power. I guess all I am saying is how does a control out perform a sensor from your master cylinder synced to your brake pedal that you can increase gain/delay (or maintaining power)?

Bought one (MaxBrake Controller) and gave it to myself for Christmas, along w/ MOPAR OEM gooseneck hitch (Hideway w/ bolt on installation, $348 from local dealer w/ their internet coupon) and some other goodies. Will install MaxBrake either tonight or Friday and try it this weekend on 4H LQ horsetrailer, will let you know how it works. Also, just FYI, MaxBrake is advertised on this site by Southwest Wheels (where I bought it from), they claim our members get the best prices, but if you key in LAWNSITE in the Coupon code at checkout, you'll get 5% off (at least until they see this post) Don't know who LAWNSITE is, but apparently they're more loved than us lowly DTR folks, Happy Holidays!

Good to know, it didn't previously show up when I searched the forums for Southwest and any of the words: checkout, code, or discount. I must have just missed it or it's disclosed somewhere else, nevertheless, it should show up now. Looking foward to testing out the MaxBrake. Cheers.

I'm also looking at upgrading break controllers, this is interesting.

Where did you get an OEM goose?
