WHo has towed a long/large bumper pull style trailer? Thinking like 12-15k on a 30-40' trailer? Behind a 2500? Thoughts, concerns other? Obviously need WD hitch and Class V rating, but what else, huge pain or just not as good as a goose or fiver?

Some trailer shops said DRW only, but I see large travel trailers that must be 12 k plus all the time......

Thanks

I'd say it would be a pain. It would wonder all over the place. Go with a GN. Alot more stable.

12-15k could be done i would think you would want a class v hitch at least or maybe a superhitch i don't know what they are rated for. i think that dc recomends only 10k on their frame but you could beef that up some.if you went with air bags on the suspension,wd setup and anti sway bars, maybe two you could do it. The main problem with long bumper pull trailers is the sway thats caused by alot of trailer that over hangs behind the axles. it gets going back and forth. i tow a 02 terry 30 ft with tandem axles and the full wd setup. I would not want to tow anything longer in this configuration.

I made a 33' bumper pull out of a travel trailer frame. We used it to haul 2 race cars to the track on Saturday nights. There was also a big tool box and tire rack mounted on it. I didn't last long with this rig. I went real quickly to a 36' gn. It handles much better with no sway.

I've been pulling a 31' terry with a 99 PWRSTRK with no issues.
I just traded the ford for 04.5 Dodge 2500 CTD, I haven't had a chance to pull yet, but I'm hoping for the same or better.

my 34 ft airstream only weighs about 8000 empty. When I brought it home with my old 76 chevy dually with no equalizer bars or sway bars it didnt sway around a bit.it has 3 axles under it.I had dualls but no bars so maybe if you get the equalizer bars and sway control bar yours will be fine.Im pulling it to florida in a couple months with my single wheel truck.

I have a 30' Toy Hauler. Dry weight is 7600# w/ no options. Loaded, I'm easliy pulling at least 12k. I do have a Titan (modified) and associated WD. I'm currently using a single friction sway control. Overall, it wasn't bad. I ran it over the Grapevine and across the 166. So a combination of hwy and hills with some nice curvey roads. Pretty smooth acroos the board with minimal sway. Even after I lost a clip the disabled my sway control, it still ran decent, I jsut had to slow down to legal speeds. Running the Grapevine I ended up throwing it in 2nd but easily maintained speed up the hill. I am going to upgrade to a dual cam sway control, but that is more a matter of comfort than necessity.

I pulled a 40' travel trailer that I bought home about 20 miles with a single wheel ton truck. It wasn't bad for the short distance. I t could be dangerour on the interstate with trucks passing.

I regularly pull a 35' Cedar Creek TT with a 3' carry-all on back for extra storage, it weighs a little over 10,000lbs with a 01 subarban w/8.1 liter. I use a dual cam sway bar/distrubution hitch, no problems. Several 500 mile trips to beach and up the Appalacian Mountain.

I tow a 33 Ft. Sprinter 300 FKMS TT. The dry weight on is 8100 Lbs. and the GVWR is 11000 Lbs with a 1080 hitch weight. I do not know the exact weight of it the way I pull it down the road. That is on my to do list, stop at a truck stop with the CAT scales and weigh every thing.
I puled this trailer with my 01 2500 which had a 9850 Lbs. weight rating. I have the Reese dual cam anti sway system and the load distrubition hitch with 1000 Lbs. bars. Even though the truck was at its maxium tow limit it did not have any trouble pulling the trailer. I do not experience any problems with sway. The secret is to take the Reese instructions and go to a level parking lot and set up the hitch right and maintain the proper air pressure in the tires.
I just traded for a 04 2500 with the 325/600 Cummins. I am hoping it will do even better with my TT. Its tow rating is 13000 Lbs. One thing that concerns me is the wimpy looking hitch recever on the new trucks. There is nothing on the hitch that says what the weight rating is. Everything I have read and have been told says it is rated at 12000 Lbs and 1200 Lbs. weight. I hope they are right. It just does not look that strong to me. I will find out in a couple of weeks, I am pulling it on a 635 mile trip to Alabama.
