Best way to move Trailer
I have kind of a weird question. I have a 18ft car hauler that I use for my jeep. I have to get it in a tight spot, and don't want to use the truck to do so. I live in a town house, 2 car garage, and the jeep fits inside on top of the trailer. Getting it there is a bit tough, but it's nice to have it inside.
I put the jeep all the way in the garage, then back the trailer up part way, load the jeep up, then back the trailer up all the way. Problem, it's really loud for my neighbors (straightpipe) and it fills the garage with diesel (wife not such a fan).
So my question is, what is the best way to move the loaded trailer into the tight spot. I was thinking maybe an atv...but I dunno if i really want to spend all taht money on an atv when I already have the jeep.

how about a front hitch on the truck, it will point the exhaust at the street so no fumes and no noise?
in travel trailer magazines, in the back where the ads are the have an electrically powered dolly, with a trailer ball, 2 rubber tires and a motor to move trailers around, they were about $600 when i looked at one.

I take it the Jeep on the trailer doesn't clear the door opening? What about getting the Jeep loaded, getting this:

Then using your Jeep winch to pull the whole rig backwards into the garage?
Don't ask me if it'll work, I'm just the idea guy.

Jeep scraps the garage door with the roll cage just on it's on getting it into the garage.
I think i need something that will move it and stop the load. It's relativaly (sp) flat, but i'ld hate to have it start rollin and not stop.
The noise isn't because of the inside, it's that my neighbors hear my truck on for like 15 min just idling and moving a little bit. Not the sound to me.....I like the sound! neighbors don't.
Keep the good ideas comin!

What about this little guy if you don't want to spend that kind of money you could probably build one pretty easy? And if you went with that dolly you could put some sort of wheel stoper to bump the tires up again so you dont smash the wall

Do any of you guys that are recommending those dollys actually have one?
If you do then your experience with them must be other than mine.... I have never seen one that lasted more than one use, even the ones with the highest tongue weight rating. I have a friendly competitor who still operates out of his home garage and he went through three of them before he gave up!
Those little pneumatic tires are designed for snowblowers and yard tractors. The axle will bend as soon as you put a load on it.
By the way I'm not trying to insult anyone's intelligence here. I too thought they made good sense until I saw one firsthand.

Any more suggestions?
Yeah if you have ever used one to try to move much of a trailer it's pretty tough. I have a little one to move my 14 foot fishing boat and trailer and at times it's hard enough.
Ok how about letting air out of the trailer tires also? I think the winch idea is a pretty good one. You could make a pully arrangment that could pull the jeep onto the trailer and then use the same winch to pull the trailer the rest of the way into the garage. I hope you get the idea of what I am tryin to say.

Not exactly the safest thing in my opinion. Fortunately each time I saw one used it was on very level ground, but even then a 5K lb. trailer still rolled at least 18 inches beyond where the user would have liked it to stop.
I use my quad quite a bit with my watercraft trailer and was using it on my 20ft aluminum flatbed car hauler until i shifted the axle and increased the tongue weight.
The quad doesn't really handle the tongue weight like you'd think. Anything over 125lbs would be for very short term use. I've broken the ball mount off mine a few times now and even re-enforcing it hasn't helped much.
Just my $.02
