I am looking at buying a 5er but I am worried that my 1996 2500 4x4 (stock) is going to be too tall with a 5er hitch causing the back end of the trailer to drag. Are the hitches or the trailers height adjustable? Anybody have any advice about this for me? Obviously I am a rookie to RV's.

If the 5er has a extended pin box you will have some adjustment there plus some adjustment in the hitch. Our 5er has a pin weight of about 1800#'s loaded and it will drop the rear of my truck about 1" when I hookup. Mine sits almost perfectly level and I have 7" clearance between the bed rails and the 5th wheel.

It depends in if you are buying a new RV or a used one. It seems the new RV's have a little bit taller stance to go along with the current truck market. Older Rv's seem to sit a little lower, but can be made to work with your truck. All you usually need to do is get the axles put under the leaf springs, instead of the factory placement of over the leaf springs. 5th wheel hitches have adjustable height so you can raise the pin height.

Most 5th wheel trailers can be hauled with a Dodge 4x4 if they are over 26 feet, shorter ones have probs as they sit really low at the back. My hauler i use is a 96 2500 4X4 the top of the tailgate is about 59 inches,, most haulers , there companies say as long as it is not over 57 inches you will have no prob. These are all new trailers, not the older low ones. I have not ever had a clearance prob to this day yet, and i haul 40 or more each year, but then most have been 28 feet to about 34 feet. Most if not all hitches have at least 4 in adjustment to them min,, so i would say if you are looking at new you would be good to go

i have played hell getting my 05 keystone to fit behind my drw, when i bought it a had a ferd, it fit fine on the ford

it came with soa (spring over axles) i had to add blocks to the trailer, remove the spacers in my trucks suspension, adjust the pin box 2x, added 2 inches of shackle length at the springs on the 5er, and bigger tires, it looks like it will finally fit
