B & W Hitch
Park and work under a come along or chainfall hoist to pull the plate up tight so the wife won't have to hold it up. :-) I have been a mechanic for years and it still took me way longer than was told to me. Now it looks like I might have a problem installing the Firestone airbags with the B&W mounts and lever there. Will find out in the next day or two. Anyone been through this...is there a problem with interferences??? Thanks for any help. Dondi
speaking of the b&w, has anyone installed one of these in a short bed? does it seem like it is far forward? the way the brackets are it really cant be moved back at all. problem is, even with a 9 inch extender, my wide trailer still has clearance problems with the cab
just put mine in about a week ago, I used a 41/4" holesaw instead of 4 " to allow for proper alignment & to make sure when I have the bed line-xed all the edges will be covered. worked under a chain fall to make everything go easier. takes time, but pretty straight forward install
Installed mine this past weekend. Took several hours but went pretty smooth except for drilling the large hole. Because the cut is not on a flat surface, the hole saw kept lurching on me because the teeth would dig into the bed humps. Broke two guide bits and ended up cutting the head off a 1/4" bolt and using that as the guide bit. Still had a lot of trouble till I got down to the trough. I say, spend the $6 for a 2x6 and make a guide. My saw was brand new and sharp, a dull one might have worked better.
I installed mine last week and it went great. I had removed a Flip Up ball, so I already had a penetration and a partial hole. For this reason, I masked the existing hole, measured, made a 4 1/16 circle with a compass, and cut with a sabre saw. After reading some of these posts, I wonder if that wouldn't be an easier option. A 3/4" or 1" hole along the inside of your mark would be more than enough to get started. Just a thought.
