I think southwestwheel is right, B&W must have a minimum advertised pricing policy now and the minimum must be $399.

if you can get me the name and number of the shop in ohio, maybe they will sell me one for a more reasonable price(unadvertised).
What I hear is B & W is in the process of cleaning up these type of vendors to protect the value of their product.

Yeah, I went ahead and bought the B&W. $399 with shipping included. The vendor did confirm that B&W now has a minimum advertised pricing policy and will cut you off if you sell it for less.

I still don't understand what's wrong with a little competition and a free market economy. Why should the manufacturer care as long as they get their wholesale price? Oh well, I'll get down off my soap box now.

It is a very common practice anymore due to the internet. When you have a product as dominate in the market place as the B & W, you really only compete with yourself. It is the only way to protect your products value and integrity. True the end user likes the $5.00 over cost to produce price, but most wholesalers will drop your line due to the non-pofitability of the market place. Valley, Reese, Draw-Tite, Curt have all made a gooseneck hitch comparable or better than the original. But, B & W carries the power of one and is the most recognized gooseneck hitch.

Apparently, they sent a letter to all their dealers. Good while the pricing lasted I guess, but it's still the hitch I'd want even at a 400 price. You can trust that hitch to perform.
