aux tank

I got my 60 gal aux tank hooked up and need to know if anybody knows what it would take to wire the tank in with the oem gauge? Everything else works well.

I knew it. I knew it. As soon as I come on to post, ole Dennis is on me again. And he called me a phalastergator. If you wasn't so darn ugly, I'd make you so, then again, what could I do.

Anyway, I got a stick. But I gotta get in the bed to use it and too short to reach over the side.. I'm gettin to old for the climbing.

By the way Dennis, you going to IRP? It's gonna be a wild time on the track. And off I think. The wife and I are taking the fiver and camping next to the drag strip. try to make it. We'll feed you if-un yo come up.

Later......and good times

I wish I could Preston,,,,,, but my work schedule won't allow me. I would have picked my vacation time but I moved around at work and had to take what was left over. Maybe we can make it down your way later on in the year.

Have a good enough time for me and you both,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Oh wait,,,,, you do that all the time anyways! Tell the wife we said "Hey" and enjoy yourselves.

Catch ya later,
Dennis & Ev

Turbo thom , how exactly did you 'hook up ' your aux tank? Just curious. A lot of us plumbed the aux tank down into the main tank, and of course no switches are required and the OEM gauge works like it normally does...just stays on FULL for a long time before it moves

I did the same as you but I installed a Holley black in line to the vent hose . What I need is a sender and wiring diagram for the aux tank, to read it from the OEM gauge with the flip of a switch. The black was free from Jeff's race truck. I know about 2 fills from the tank will be about empty. I just wanted to get a reading on the dash.

I guess I never thought about a need for that. My aux tank has its own gauge in the toolbox portion. I will run my main tank down reasonably low and then flip the valve to fill the main tank back up. When the tank gets low again I flip the valve...when flipping the valve doesn't make the fuel gauge needle go up, I know the aux tank is empty

I haven't heard of anyone doing it this way with a pump in line, most just gravity feed. What was your reasoning there, just curious?

ok, add a sending unit to your aux tank.
run the wire to the location for your switch.
splice an on-on switch (spst) into the factory fuel gaunge wire.
connect your aux tank wire to the other side of the switch.
All the sending units I have seen operate the same way, you just need to find one that is calibrated for the depth of your tank (or where ever you want empty. If you have an L shaped tank, the last 1/4 will take forever compared to the first 3/4.

I would draw you a picture, but I cant draw well in ASCII.

My 99 has an aux tank with the switchover valve. It switches the gage also but the gage in the dash will not respond to the change untill the key is cycled. The 2000 just got the same system installed and initally appears as it will switch right away. Whitney has adjustable depth units for dodge and the valves if you want one.

Lightman...........The reason I did it like I did is so the fuel would be pulled from the tube in the tank and not "drain" from the bottom corner. I did not run a filter in line and did not want to chance any trash commin from the auxiliary tank. I guess I don't trust folks as much as I use to and just felt I would have a less likely chance of trash being pull into the tube rather than draining. Maybe not so, but my way of thinking.

Now I did run a hose and ball valve through the bed to drain the tank, from the corner plug, if need be and can also put the hose in a five gal can for fuel if all else fails. I'm not totally stuck with the pump.

Thanks Fronty.........I'll see what I can do. Any special ohm value I need to be aware of?

Preston - good idea on the drain. Every so often it would be nice to fill a 5 gal can from the aux tank.
