To anyone considering hotshotting

Fairly often someone will post for info on how to get started or who to sign on with . My advice is always to not sign on with a carrier but get your own authority and build a good customer base . I just read this post and it explains it far better than I ever could . http://ltlhotshot.myfreeforum.org/Be..._about159.html

Rick G has good advice, I have two friends with semis that went threw that stuff with brokers, you might just as well park the friggen truck before you pull for them. After all expenses your working for 6 bucks an hour, and struggling at that. Funny how he's right on with how they bait you at first with good loads, them they tighten their hands around your throat. My buddy started out at $300 dollar loads of sod,3 a day($900), then they were $250dollar loads, couple weeks after that they were $200dollar loads , but they don't have your pay ready for you today. I helped him out with some good advice, when you get to the site , don't unload until your rears were paid up, and then at least he started getting paid when goods were delivered. Their are a few good brokers, but sometimes they can't keep you busy enough, and you have to pull for the ripoffs to pay your bills. One good break down , and your in more debt, your in bad shape unless your making big bucks everyday.

I sure like doing some hauling with mine. The main problem i have is it would have to be short local stuff. It sounds like most haul multiple states. Any advice for me or is it something that isn't reasonable?

All depends on what you want to haul!!!!! If you wanna haul boats, get yourself a 30 ft tri axle trailer and go to all your local boat yards!! If you wanna haul cars, get yourself a 48 foot wedge type trailer. If you wanna haul freight, get yourself a 40 foot flat deck. If you have no clientel and dont mind working with brokers, go on www.getloaded.com or www.centraldispatch.com and once you start hauling for about a month of those websites, you should have yourself a descent enough clientel were you would get the phone calls instead of dealing with the websites that brokers post on. Like for me, im still using centraldispatch to haul cars and avg pay is only 40 to 65 cents a mile for the avg 500 miles runs. But that is per car so even though its not alot, and after I take away my 65cents per mile cost to operate, i can still do 300-400 dollars a run profit. Its not alot for auto transporting but im still dealing with brokers!!! But I have already done a few runs and I am already building my clientel where as I charge 85cpm for 1 car, 75cpm per car for 2, or 65-70cpm per car for 3, and let me tell you that they always jump on the 3 cars. All in all, I avg around 400-700 miles a trip, and being loaded up, I can avg around 1.50 per mile and thats just with brokers!!!!! Again, once I fully get on my own, that can jump too, 2-2.50dpm minus my current .65cpm to operate. Again this is cars/trucks only. Good Luck

P.S. Some Auctions pay 95cpm per car!!!!!
