Is is a good idea to keep an anode in your water heater thru out the year until you winterize your system ??

I assume you mean the sacrificial anode, right? Absolutely keep it in there. Most people pull that anode to drain for winter and leave it out until the spring. But, be sure to put it back in the spring - - it reduces the deterioration on the tank by sacrificing itself. I replace mine about every year for a new one even though I don't have to winterize (thanks Florida) - - cheap insurance.

Suburban water heaters are a steel tank, and have the anode rod built into the drain plug. The anode rod needs to be used. Atwood water heaters are an aluminum tank that is lined with glass. You do not need to use an anode rod.
