ALL you TIRE guys. QUESTION???
ive seen that on botht ruck and trlr tires and it never became an issue w/the sidewalls and i never did figure it out. i ran em on the truck like that but if i recall it seems like comet purple stuff took it off when i washed it but it came back aftwer awhile of drivin...
I now have just shy of one thousand miles on 4 new BF Goodrich Comercial T/A tires on my fiver rv. I have not done anything to these tires other than keeping them inflated to a cold pressure of 80psi and covering them when not in use. I have not washed them, driven in rain, applied any dressings, or otherwise.
Today, after returning home from the 3rd trip with these new tires, I was putting on the tire covers and noticed a discoloration ring in the sidewall just below the rim. This condition is only on one tire (right side of rv, front axle) and I have not curbed or scuffed them on anything. Plus, it is between the widest part of the tire and the rim so I'm sure it's not a scuff. I know this occured on the 120 mlle return trip as I always keep a close watch on my tires - especailly since these are new.
I'm concerned about this since it is only on one tire and the tires are so new. I tow the rv at 70mph on interstate highways, FL heat, and it is not overloaded at all.
Of course, I will contact a local dealer but in the meantime dow anyone have any ideas on what this could be. Thanks. PCM

OK. I went down to the rv today to take a look at the tire in question and maybe take the trailer over to the tire dealer. Guess what? The above mentioned situation has disappeared!!!
The tire has been covered just like all the others. If I look real close, I can slightly see where it was, but otherwise, it's disappeared.
So that explains why I never saw it on the last trip while parked. It must have appeared on the way home. NOW, that makes me think it could be heat ??? Any ideas on this one, guys? pcm
I have no idea concerning the discoloration. I just wanted to mention you are looking for trouble pumping grease into those E-Z Lube fittings. They are fine on boat trailers without brakes. (my boat trailer has them, and no they are not Bearing Buddies). #1, In order to get grease into the outer bearing you must fill the hub cavity with grease, which leaves no air pocket for expansion and cooling. #2, after a few hundred miles the inner seal isn't as tight to the spindle as it used to be and that heated grease, with nowhere else to go, will end up inside the hub causing lack of braking and ruining the shoes.
FWIW, if the tires are wearing evenly it is possible that the bearing retaining nut is too tight which will make the hub overheat and I suppose the heat transfer from the wheels could change the color of the rubber. Pull it 40 or 50 miles and check the heat of the hub. It will be warm, but not too hot to keep your hand on it. A heat gun would be a better gauge.

looks like somethin that sling offa the rim too me. cleaner or something maybe. if it was the hub heat the rim would be burnt to a crisp. roll. i got t/a on my truck do the same thing. oil in the tires comin out maybe..
Th rims were brand new and clean when the new tires were installed on them. Still odd to me that only one tire is doing this. I have ordered a digital infrared heat gun to determine if it is heat. In the meantime, I really do appreciate all the input, guys. Thanks. PCM
Conclusion
OK! I just returned from having the fiver out for a weekend trip. This time I was armed with my new Raytek infrared temperature gun.
Prior to the trip, I cleaned 1/2 the mystery area of the tire with 303 Protectant. Again, these tires are new, purchased at the same time, never been dressed, and never drivin in rain.
After about 25 miles at 70-75mph, I pulled over into one of the rest areas and took temp readings on all four tires - the tire sidewall, tread, rim, brake drum, and hub. All the readings were within a few degrees of each other on each assembly for comparison purposes so I know now that I do not have an overheating tire.
So, I'm happy t know that it was just some kind of residual from manufacture or mounting. However, it was odd that it was only on 1 tire and only appeared after driving then disappeared once parked.
But just the same, thanks to all who read this post and offered suggestions. I'm such a worry wort at times. I guess I was being one this time!
