airstream lug nuts
hello,
have a new airstream. the manual says to check tq on the lug nuts after the first 200 miles. there seems to be about 1/32nd free play in the head of two of the nuts. my question is does anyone know if these are nuts or bolts that go through to the hub and is this 1/32 nd play normal? the tq seems to be good at 85 lbs.

thanks,
david h
Re:airstream lug nuts
if i understand your question correctly what you may be feeling is the sheet metal cap slipping or moving on the inner nut they may not be solid pieces. I am not 100 percent sure that is it , or if they indeed use two piece lug nuts .
i can check mine and let you know may be a few days though.

thanks ctdair,

spoke with my neighbor and he thinks that what you say is correct. seems there is a cover on the lug nut and it is probably moving.

thanks again,
david h
Re:airstream lug nuts
Be careful to use the proper size socket on the two-piece nuts. A too-big socket will distort the outside cover enough for it to round out the cover and come off the nut, at which point the cover gets stuck in your socket and now you have to get a smaller socket to turn the now-uncovered smaller nut. I have had a few do this over the years so now I keep both sizes of sockets handy.
