Air Bags (Truck Camper)

I am sure it has been asked many times, but, what is a good, economical air bag to stick under the rear for hauling a truck camper? Payload will be around 1800lbs on a 2500 long bed quad.

Firestone Ride Rites. IIRC they run about $235 from Summit.

You could also get the Pacbrake bags through the DTR store for about the same $$.

Thanks. I am going with the PacBrake's as I like the aluminum construction better.

Yup, that is exactly what I did. After owning Airlift bags on my past 3 trucks, I thought I would have a look at the new Pacbrake bags because they do seem to have a bit better quality of construction. Not that I had any issues with Airlift - they always performed well and I never experienced any failures.

Umm.....they aren't listed on the store page. After talking with Lary, it seems that almost everything he sells isn't listed on the store page! The store is almost like a bit of a teaser for all the things they do sell. You just have to call or email Lary for inquiries.....it seems he will be able to get most anything you could want for your truck at some very good prices for DTR members - they just aren't advertised.

I would like to know if the air bags with the lowest psi. {5 or 10 lbs.} will raise the stock hight of the rear of the truck when there is no load on it?

I have the Air Lift's on my truck. With the truck empty and the bags at the minimum 5psi it does firm up the rear of the truck and lift it maybe 1/2".

I run my bags at 0 psi when I have no load. Been doing that for years no problems. They sure are nice with a load on.

When I run 5 psi in the bags it raises the rear bumper about 1/2" - 3/4". I had an old 89 F-250 Supercab and it was about 1" at the rear bumper. I have the Dual Command center in my Dodge so life is good and easy. See my pictures for the console mount.

I had Firestone's on my Chevy and also put them on my Dodge. The Pac Brake brackets sure appear a lot nicer than the Firestone. I had to grind on the Firestone lower bracket to get it to fit. Had I known the Pac Brake looked so much better I would have gone with them.

The idea behind 5psi no load is to prevent the bag from collapsing when the suspenion extends to max.

I actually found the no load ride is better with the bags (at 5 psi) than before installing them.
