Air bag question

I'm trying to find out which company makes the kit for my 3rd Gen (4x4 QC short-bed) that mounts on the axel tube inside of the springs and goes to the bottom of the frame, not from the springs to a bracket that bolts to the outside of the frame. I don't like that cheap little bracket that holds the top of the air bag, because it hits my plastic inner fender well.

I'm looking for the company, part # and pictures. I'm getting ready to get a 5th wheel and already have a 16k SUPER-SLIDE mounted in my bed. All thats left is the air bags and a brake controler.

Thanks for all the help to come

I put the Firestone AirLifts on my '99 yesterday, and the bracket comes close to the edge of the bottom lip of the bed, but it doesn't rub anything.

My 5th wheel brackets are where your air bag brackets mount to the frame. I've seen some pictures on this site, but I don't remember where

Thanks

Go to http://www.ride-rite.com/ and look at part #2220. This is not the one called for, but it might work.

Try Timbren load boosters. They mount in the fasion you are refering to. I have put a lot of them on and have had better luck with them than airbags, much simpler, put em on and forget em. Look at them here....................

When I first got my '01 3500, I put my Airlift's on (used to be on a '95 2500 with no factory overloads), and the bottom plate that the airbag sits on interfered with the frame with 4k pounds in the bed of the truck....that and the overload springs didn't touch their perches then either.
The only way I'd be able to use my airbags is to remove the overload springs.

Like I said, I'm barely within the 5" limit without taking the overloads off. And your right, the overloads will probably never touch the pads with the air bags on there.

The new kit I have may be a little different than the old set. A few months ago when I first looked at the bags, they did not make a set that could be installed with the overload springs still on. At least that's what 2WheelParts and the air bag factory folks told me. In fact, 4WheelParts went to put them on and the old kit would not fit.

Try the Timbrens, way better set-up in my opinion.

Timbrens are just rubber blocks, not air bags. They also dry have been known to ride like crap and dry out and crack.

I put the Firestone ride rites on my truck about 40,000 miles ago and I have had no trouble what so ever with them. I carry 5psi unloaded and up to 25psi when I pull my fifth wheel trailer. The bags go on differently on a 03 and newer than on the 02 and earlier trucks ( the springs are out side of the frame on the 03s and up).

Timbrens

I used Timbrens for 1 trip. I took them off in the campground. They were tooo bouncy. This is what I did.

I had spring shop in Charlotte add two full length leafs to my rear pack. They made my truck ride a little rougher but it was well worth it. $500.00+-.
These pictures were of 2004.5 2500.

If you are bottoming out with factory overloads on a 2500 and need air bags you are packing way more than 4000lbs on the truck. I have the RideRite air bags and no overloads and only need 40psi to level the truck with 6000lbs on the rear axle. Timbrens are cheap and easy but never can they offer the ride of air bags while loaded as they are just a hollow rubber bumper. Also the colder the outside temp they have less flex to them and could split. PK

No bottoming out with the overloads, just wanted to take some of the "roll" out when carrying the cabover. I just hope the $$$ and the time does what has been reorted.
