Adjustable coupler on car haulers?

Hey all. I'm on the final stages of ordering a car hauler trailer from Kauffman. Now I know that with the height of my 4x4 CTD that to keep the trailer level, I'll need a 4-5" drop. A four or five inch drop insert that handles MORE than 5000 lbs is about $59, plus tax or shipping. The trailer manufacturer offers an adjustable coupler on the trailer for $75. Since the prices will work out to be very similar, is there one route that folks recommend over the other? I'm not familiar with adjustable couplers, their strength etc. It sure seems more flexible than just buying a straight drop insert.. Thoughts?

Northern tool carries a forged, 4" drop, 12,000lb capacity draw bar for $24.99.

Keep searching, I found a 6" drop, 12k rated drawbar for about $45 & S&H.

If theres a chance of hauling more then just that trailer, I would get the adjustable recvr.
Of not, having it adjustable at the trailer should be fine.
Only concern I have is how reliable and strong is the coupler then?

I saw an aluminum or stainless adjustable coupler on here somewhere...High weight rating and easy to adjust.

In this case, the adjustable coupler is welded to the trailer when it's built, and is according to Kauffman, just as strong as the other type. The adjustments are made with bolts not pins per DOT. I could get a drop hitch insert, although at northern tool I didn't see the one for $24 that was mentioned above. However if I go up in tire size or do a t-rex or something, I think the adjustable coupler may be nice. ?

I pull/own 3 different trailers-- and all of 'em ride at different heights.

I also tow with and without a heavy truck camper sitting in the bed. This affects ride height of the tow ball on the truck too.

I got the adjustable coupler for the TRUCK, and change it for whichever trailer I'm towing that trip.

Seems to work better, no need to go out and buy a seperate coupler/ball combo for each trailer.

I haven't been able to find any adjustable ball mounts that are rated for more than 600/6000... Where are they?

I should have gotten an adjustable for the truck but oh well, it's already ordered. This is primarily the only trailer I'll be towing, although my truck's height may change when I get new tires/wheels, so I guess the adjustable coupler should do well.

I can't wait to load up a car and give my truck at least a little load (6k lbs)! I feel bad the mighty CTD rarely gets to pull anything heavier than 2 jetskis Finally put that Jordan controller to use!
